She's for integration, in all facets of life. Ok, she was wrong about a couple of non blacks winning an award. Cool, you got her Johnny. Zing, gotcha bitch.
Now can we get back to discussing what she's really trying to say now that you got that out of your system?
So she's for integration? The majority opinion? Wow. Groundbreaking stuff. Let's celebrate her courage.
What is the percentage of people who are arguing for segregation?

Well I have opinions on, say, ACA. But I know I'm not informed enough to know if my opinions are actually correct.
Anyways though. I see what you're both saying.

Morgan's point was very different than Dash's.
Seriously? We end the shenanigans by getting rid of a month and start referring to each other by our name, or as Americans.
Dash suggested getting rid of BET and the associated awards... is the Grammy's and Academy not enough?
Conversely, Freeman suggests having a White or Jewish History Month. Why don't we have a White Entertainment Television network with awards geared toward White Entertainment?

I would bang her like a screen door.
to the guy above: the intent of her comments were truth.....either be segregated or be integrated...but stop with the back and forth...she is damn sure correct about the president...his hope and change has divided us more than we were in 2007..she's right...truth hurts...as I said several pages ago...what you have been arguing are little semantics and details that have blinded you from the whole point of her comment...
and im out on that note...

Again missing the big picture or just choosing not to address it.

frick if I know? How is this even remotely relevant? She thinks, as a black woman, that other black people should stop going out of their way to seclude themselves. I think that's a fair argument. I also think, as a white man, white people should stop secluding themselves from the black community.
Her point is that you can't have your cake and eat it too. And while she may be brash and over the top at times, she's correct. She is just speaking for her own race.
eta we should all accept awards, listen to music, live, work, shop, workout, party and pray all in the same places. We have to realize that secluding ourselves, white and black folk both, is not improving integration.

It sounds like you're hung up on the name.
If it wasn't BLACK entertainment television, but some other non-race specific name, and had all the same awards, and all the same winners that would be an acceptable situation?
There's some limit on channels or award shows? Who cares? Why have the CMT awards? is the Grammy's not enough?
Probably because the free market won't make this viable? I have plenty of options to view "white" entertainment. I don't think some mythical "WET" will be able to capture those shows/movies/music and become the (mostly) exclusive provider of such content like BET was when it first started.
Again, if you lived in a foreign country, would you support an American centric channel that catered to the interests of Americans abroad? Or would you just switch to futbol instead of football because you are now a minority that must integrate every facet of your life with the majority.

come on, man. Surely you're not this dense. I have to believe you are just choosing to take this point of view at this point for fear of admitting you are wrong.

comparing geographical differences is not the same thing as comparing race relations within 1 country. If it were, no one would be upset or boycotting the Oscars. We have more in common then you like to think, and comments like the above are doing nothing to help reverse segregation.

there isn't segregation in music. There is segregation among races. There was no Music Rights Movement. In other words, no one gives a shite about this. This is a disingenuous response.

That's a fine argument to have. I don't disagree with it. But her "solutions" are short sighted and are of little substance. The existence or non-existence BHM and BET are such non-factors in the larger discussion. Who cares that BET exists? Don't watch it if you don't like it.
I don't really have a problem with majority and minority cultures having an integrated and shared culture, while also preserving part of their cultures that are exclusive to themselves.
My example from before. If I moved to Germany, I would work towards assimilating to the german culture, and I would hope/expect the germans to be welcoming towards my assimilation. But that doesn't mean I'm going to just straight up shed all "American" parts of my identity/interests. I will still prefer football instead of futbol. And if a tv channel that catered towards americans that showed american programming and american sports were to exist, then I would support that channel.

Post this on the Tiger rant and the kids over there will be in a major dilemma.
They get fighting mad if anybody says anything not 100% pro Tm.
They are really proud of him.

I don't give a shite about BET either, but I'm white. If she wants our cultures to coexist and feels like BET and black dominated award shows are preventing that, who am I to say otherwise? I also don't disagree. It may not be a big deal to some, and it may bet o others.

Apples and oranges when comparing geographical culture differences and black and white relations in America.

I think this thread has run its course. Nobody is coming up with new opinions its just people saying the same thing over and over again.

You honestly think BET is a source of true racial conflict in America? Again, who gives a shite? The audience that watches BET does not get the programming they want from other stations. That's why they watch. Free market baby.
Unless you are arguing for "white" programming to become more integrated, then why should it bother anyone that people watch BET?
I agree that whites and blacks have things in common. They both generally like things they relate to. White people relate to white centric shows. I don't know, but I think it's a safe assumption that black people relate more to black centric shows. Nothing wrong with that. When BET was started, there was an untapped market that the founder believed he could capture. He was right. The free market worked.
