I am meeting a guy tomorrow to look at a '66 Shelby Mustang Gt350 Coupe. Took a brief look at it from the topside and through the windows. There are chips in the paint and a small crack in the side panel vent behind the passenger door. Has about 97,000 miles and the engine was restored 7000 miles ago. I don't know if the block is original or not, but will check the VINs on the vehicle and put it on a lift to check for rust and parts. I need to know if anyone knows a good Mustang appraiser in DFW who really knows what he's looking for. Referrals are needed.

The seller is asking a ridiculously low price of $29,650, so I'm suspicious and also elated to possibly make the buy.

Advice?

Seller COULD be desperate but more likely there’s some issues.

You mostly get what you pay for.

Sit tight, they’ll be some good deals on classic vehicles to come.

ETA: Marti Report would be my first request of the seller.

Just from the top looking at it, I would rate it between a 3 (very good) and 4 (good). Good can sell as high as $100k with Excellent selling around $200k or more.

This does not have the stick, but has a 4 speed auto, so those are usually less than the stick.

I don't think you could get an automatic in a '66 Shelby Mustang unless it was a Hertz car. I'm not the expert, though.

I'm wrong, you could. What color is the car?

Well, I know Hertz ordered a 1000 of these and only received around 85 of the stick. All the rest were 4 speed auto. It has crossed my mind.

Ummmmmm...... You've said this twice so I'm guessing it's not a typo.

YES, I know. That is one reason I am looking for an expert, just in case of a counterfeit VIN plate.

A buddy of mine has a running in good shape '66 I think. Trying to get him to sell at least one of these relics.

Look hard at the rail the VIN is on- look underneath for signs of cutting/welding

Even better if the data plate is still there and matches...

I don't see another real '66 GT350 on the internet for less than six figures so something aint right with yours. It does look like $30K for a really nice Clone wouldn't be out of line, though.

An auto GT350 would be a three speed.

It' s also possible that this was a Pony car and the guy has made it appear to be a Shelby. If so, the 289 hi-pro engine definitely won't have the extra HP of the Shelby Cobra Jet.

Probably just a crack in the bondo where they put it on thick to cover the rust
