Houston County, GA (pronounced House-Ton)
Zavala, TX (located in East TX) & Zavalla County TX (located in South TX)
Houston County TX (located in East TX 100+ miles from the city of Houston) this is actually very common in Texas. The counties and cities are rarely in the same place often hundreds of miles apart.
Central, LA (located in Southeast LA not in Central LA)

This got me thinking...along with West Memphis, Arkansas these are cities located across a river from the city they are named for. Are there any others like this or are these three the only ones?
West Monroe
West Palm Beach
East Hampton
North Little Rock
North Charleston
North Las Vegas

A lot of the ones like that in the south had to do with segregation. West Memphis & West Monroe for sure did. You can still tell by the demographic make up of these places.

A corollary to this is when there are city names that match county (parish) names and they aren’t in said county.
For example: Jackson County in Mississippi is along the coast, not by the State capital.
