Its not for everyone, I guess - but it is great compared to other Southern mid-sized cities.

Asheville, NC - Ive not been but hear its awesome as well. Its in the same region as Charlotte and Greenville. Maybe its just that area of the country that I like.

Different vibe in St Pete. Pinellas has plenty of concentrated wealth; but, Tampa is quickly gaining steam. Lots of rejuvenated areas in the Channelside/Riverwalk/Heights and Ybor areas. The Tampa Bay Area has emerged as a legitimate culinary and craft scene with some great vacation destinations. Still struggling to get major businesses to call it home but the addition of Amazon and others is a good sign. The Economist even coined a term called “Tampapreneurs” as the City has the most entrepreneurs under 40 per capita in the country.

and the University of Tampa has the hottest women of any college in the country. So much talent that I told a friend that a full body shot must be part of the admission process. If you are an OT 6, you are going to have to have a 32+ ACT.

I haven’t been here long enough to have an opinion on UT; but, the locals will tell you that UT has replaced Miami as the college where affluent parents send their kids who can’t make the academic standards of UF. I will say that they’ve got a beautiful campus. My business is only a mile away and it seems like they are constantly building and upgrading their facilities.

Indianapolis. Seriously, great city.

I seriously, seriously disagree with you here, man.

I am in Indy for various reasons a good bit, and I genuinely would rather visit any other metro with 1.5+MM in the country than Indy.

Traverse City, MI

This might be because we're on an SEC-centric board, but Traverse City and basically that whole area from Manistee to Mackinac is well known in the Midwest for how great a destination it is. Definitely not underrated in my part of the country, and there are few places in America better than that stretch of northern Michigan during the summer.

For underrated cities that I've seen mentioned in this thread, Grand Rapids has really become a solid town in the last couple of decades.

The upstate area of South Carolina is beautiful, and Greenville has a lot going for it. My main beef with it is that it’s a bit too “churchy” for my taste. It’s probably one of the most conservative artsy cities I’ve ever been to.

Iowa City would be on my list. So would Franklin, TN and San Marcos, TX.

Charlotte.

Most people only stay downtown when they visit. I lived there for 3 years and rarley wanted/needed to go downtown.

The city is really about 10-15 areas/neighborhoods/burrows that all have a different vibe & uniqueness to them.

The southend area alone has 10+ breweries and countless restaurants, all within walking distance from one another.

Actually warmer than most would think. It is practically surrounded by ocean, which has a moderating effect.

It can still get pretty fricking cold, just not as cold as one would expect.
