Do you prefer traditional or modern churches? I myself am more traditional. Seems to me that newer churches try too hard to be "cool" and some I have gone to get right to the judgemental preaching without hesitation.

Can you be more specific?

If your church isnt relating everything back to Jesus, you should find a new church, non-denominational or not.

One thing I dont like about the Church I grew up in was the legalistic approach it took. The Word is freedom, not chains.

Been in a small church ever since I was born. Numbers have started to deindle lately and I'm not sure how much longer it has. Very old school and traditional

Is this really a serious question?

I find the new fangled 'be seen while praising' type churches with the flavor of the hour band, all target then lowest common denominator. I understand it has a purpose and it's trying to attract some of the younger folks or the troubled.

I enjoy the traditional aspects of churches. I don't need someone reading the book and screaming all dramatic his interpretations of it. I can read the book myself.

Not really religious, but I like traditional more. Can't stand these new places like Church of the Highlands in Tuscaloosa

I believe in God as much as I believe in The Force and the Tooth Fairy.

Matthew 6:5-6

quote:

5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.
6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

The few I went to in recent years just started judging people by racial.. YES A CHURCH DID THIS!, economic status, claiming everyone is going to burn in hell. After attending about 15 to 20 churches in a span of 4 months when I moved back to Mobile, seeing how insane so many churches I went to that didn't hesitate to judge entire groups (and large groups at that!) of people, I just said to heck with em all. Weird thing is, since I am no longer a regular church goer, I have felt closer to God than at any point in my life. I also feel more sympathy towards people I barely know. The other thing is how a number of people I know personally who are regular church goers are some of the most prejudiced, racist, intolerant, thievery-loving people I have ever met. Even some of my own cousins and neighbors I no longer choose to be around them as they have become so full of hate and fear yet they claim to be some "holier than thou" "Christian".

I like to get high and go to a random church sometimes. It's like a free comedy

Well you've kind of highlighted the issue. Everyone thinks they're right with their own religion or denomination, but zero of those people/religions have a lick of proof.

I just find it sad that there are so many adults that haven't taken 30 minutes out of their lives to actually research the foundations of these religions and realize that it's far more likely than not that it's a bunch of horseshite. But no, instead I'm right and I will judge everyone who disagrees.

Free your mind from that nonsense, it's so liberating.

I went to a "modern" church in Dothan and the opening song was their rock band lead singer saying "We're gonna rock the God out of your soul!" First, I was like "Umm.. don't you mean rock the God into your soul?" And Second, I was like.. "Yeah... I'm done here" The cheesiness of it was so over the top. But then again.. that's Dothan!

I attended a church like that with a few friends that are members once. It reminded me of the King of the Hill episode where Bobby joined the youth group run by the cool youth pastor. Many modern churches have gone full on hipster.
