No I am well aware of where it happens the most. Its a fact, that goes on at more black churches, but it does happen at some white churches as well.

But someone like Swaggart, who has an international reach and doesn't do it just around election time, he probably gets paid more by favors than by cash. Either way, all of these "leaders" know how many people they have influence over and what its worth. Churches are the original social media. And the more people you can influence the more you are worth.

Dang that sucks. I love Fr. Josh.

Fr. Andrew is awesome there, too. They're a great 1-2 punch.

Black churches are notorious for being politically influential in their community.

I've been to a lot of churches in my life and of many denominations. We were nomads. The only real political issue I've heard about in church was an anti abortion stance. But one can argue that is an issue of morality and not political.

Anyone watch the show "Under the Banner of Heaven" on Hulu?

Its about an event that happened in Utah among some mormons. I know mormons consider themselves Christians, but many Christians don't consider mormons Christian.

Is the whole Joseph Smith, Brigham Young thing what separates mormons from everyone else?

I know it's not in BR, but I would highly recommend Fellowship Church off of Hwy 73 in Prairieville. They have a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere. The pastor and staff there are great.

The inquisition start centuries before the Reformation.

Almost every black pastor in the south gets paid during election cycles.

No, it's still the church of England, and is known as Episcopalian in the US.

Yes, black churches have congregations that are poorer than "white churches".

I am just saying there are white churches (usually in more rural areas) that get paid as well.

Its really just one big game.

I remember being in the Deacon’s meeting when he announced it very clearly. Floored me. He kept it up for a long time after that and poked fun at his one eye, baldness, and hearing aids all the time. All the while being a beast of a man with a ton of presence. I can’t say he was the best preacher, pastor, administrator, or counselor I’ve ever been under but he’s the best person that I’ve seen all those rolled into one in a single person. I feel like the church is just now coming out of that loss combined with covid.

Genuinely the only time he looked weak during the whole ordeal was the last week he preached before he passed away. We knew it was coming soon.

Sorry for your loss, but congrats on having a heck of a cousin. He represented New Orleans, LSU, and Christ very well as long as I’ve knew him.

My favorite Gary story for you to share or encourage you if you didn’t know it already….

I run most Saturday mornings and my wife would occasionally ask me to go to HEB afterwards. One time I went and ran into him and we talked a while in the fruit and veggie section. He said he did all the shopping on Saturday mornings and enjoyed seeing people. We talked for a bit and got on with our shopping. I made it a few aisles and I saw him talking to somebody. Made it a few more and saw him talking to somebody else. I kept outpacing him 2:1 because he always had somebody stop him. I forgot something and had to double back and he was talking to somebody else yet again. I joked that this must have been a frustrating experience and he said he’s never felt that way. One of the people he talked to has been at the church for 10 years and just met her for the first time. He said it’s hard to be a personal minister to 2k+ people and he didn’t mind taking 3 hours to shop because it gave him an opportunity to meet people that he can’t being the pastor of a church that large. Such a humbling experience for me as I would never think of it that way.

This is my family church, and I find the Jesus mural to be alarmingly creepy.
