The Tuscaloosa campus does.

I just left CoH after 5 years. It just isn’t right for me. But not to say it isn’t right for others. Something just doesn’t feel right.

1. Out of all of symbols they could pick, why does theirs look like Illuminati?

2. Why does it seem like they almost go out of their way not to have crosses or pictures of crosses anywhere on campuses or in videos.

All I know is that Chris used to work for Dino at HP....then Chris left to start his own church before Dino got himself in trouble.....my understanding is that Chris took him under his wing and gave him a fresh start in Bham...I dont think Dino did anything illegal...It was just an affair and that now it's really huh hush//

Ps Chris was a pastor at Bethany, not HPC. He's been friends with Dino for a long time, but they never worked together until after he left HPC.

I’m not attempting to dissuade anyone from going to church or having a better relationship with god, but you are right, something doesn’t seem right about it at all. Sure they are opening up satellite campuses everywhere, but I question their motives. I personally see a church that is non denominational strictly for marketing purposes. I see a church that is cleverly being selective in their message because they are trying to appeal to a wide swath of the church going public. For lack of a better word, it feels as if the have sanitized the gospel to be less offensive to certain groups. When you couple that with big beautiful churches popping up strategically around the state, I see a money making operation pretending to be a church. It’s a very clever and very seductive operation they are running. It looks great on the outside, but I have a very hard time believing god wants his house being turned into a hundred million dollar a year enterprise.

So, is your problem that people like going to the church too much? It's too popular so something must be wrong? I never thought trying to fulfill the great commission would be something to criticize a church for.

Did I say that? No I didn’t. What I am saying is that there is something very seedy about running a church like it’s walmart or McDonald’s. Are you trying to spread the gospel or is fattening the 100 million dollar a year budget the goal? How much are they taking in with their highlands college operation? Don’t ever forget that Jesus drove the money changers out of the temple. What would he do if he stepped foot in the CoH?

shite you’re right. I’m not sure why I thought that. I knew they were friends before he moved and before Dino messed up.

Jesus was born Jewish. Don’t ever forget that.

He didn’t say money was evil but the love of money was. Big difference

And he didn’t drive them out because money was evil. He drove them out because they were using gods house to make money and enrich themselves. I put to you that when you have a church pulling in a hundred million a year and pastors enriching themselves as a result, there is absolutely no difference between them and those that Jesus drove from the temple.

You think God wants people to be poor?

Considering how much they do that just completely loses money, they could do a lot better of not spending if they just wanted to hold onto money. Stop by their campus in Woodlawn (or any of the state penitentiaries) and tell me they're just in it for the money.

And the idea that a bible college that charges so little for tuition (LINK) is a big money maker.

Did I say that? You keep putting words in my mouth. I believe god wants us all to be successful and reach our full potential, but that does not mean he wishes you to use the church as a business operation to enrich yourself.

Not sure what your issue is? You for some reason think that CotH is purely in it for money contrary to many people saying otherwise.

It's a little of both. Undoubtedly the church, or any other church for that matter, is proud to rake in more dollars.
Certainly, the church is doing some good with the funds gained. Probably some really questionable stuff, too, like conferences for the deacons at the beach.

I don't see anything wrong with that as long as the members have no problem with it and they obviously don't or it would show in donations.

You can bet good money that this outreach into downtown is going to be a net negative to the bottom line the entire time it is in operation. That community isn't going to pour money into CoH. So perhaps they really are trying to do something good. Maybe Woodfin reached out to them with his 99 neighborhoods campaign because Woodfin seems to be standing behind CoH.

Maybe for the church but Chris and his family live like typical rich people. They’re fricking loaded and have no hesitations showcasing it on social media.

And as someone who is close friends with someone on their leadership team, I can say they certainly refer to him as some mythological figure who is super important compared to the average joe.

The problem is not so much with the tax exempt status as it is the totally untaxed portion of salary paid to pastors as housing expense.....and all the backwards things that can be done there

Chris Hodges got his start from Dr Melilli at Christian Life Fellowship, as did Dino, Stovall Weems, Rusty Domingue and Joe Champion.
Doc is a wonderful man.
ARC is Association of Related Churches, a large group that helps plant churches, it’s not just a COH organization.
