Church in WV burns, bibles 'untouched' by flames

Firefighters from several departments worked for hours to beat the blaze — as the flames swallowed the structure and smoke billowed high into the air. Fire officials said the structure sustained heavy damage. But when it was over and firefighters were combing through the rubble, they uncovered church possessions that had survived: Bibles. Farrington said the sacred texts had been scattered throughout the sanctuary, most in seat-back pockets for parishioners and one that was kept on the pulpit for him.
The Coal City Fire Department posted pictures on Facebook showing the Bibles, which had been collected into a pile on the soot-stained ground.
“Though odds were against us, God was not,” the fire department wrote in the post over the weekend. “Picture this, a building so hot that at one point in time, firefighters had to back out. In your mind, everything should be burned, ashes. Not a single bible was burned and not a single cross was harmed! Not a single firefighter was hurt!”
arrington said he sees it as a sign from God that nearly two dozen Bibles were untouched, as were three crosses — two wooden crosses on the walls inside the church and one on the rooftop made of stone.
“In the midst of the fire, God’s word will always stand,” he said.
Personally I find it interesting that this article exists, given the massive scandals revealed lately in the church. Does God care more about books than children? Thoughts? Comments? Discussion?

Someone brought that stuff in after they put out the flames

Same thing happened in True Detective Season 3 with that booksack. Someone planted it there after the fire

You don’t know that
It was the work of God
It was the work of God

So God burned the church and spared the bibles? Might be a sign in there somewhere.

I heard a few stories similar to this after Katrina. The entire contents of a house molded and ruined but crucifixes and other religious icons left untouched.

The other possibility is that leather protects against fire very well.

I remember family members who live in Bay St. Louis, told us, after Katrina, there was a home that was completely destroyed, everything around it was gone or destroyed, but there was a statue of mary that was untouched.
It seems like you hear similar stories after many disasters, but I just can't buy it.
In some cases, I think someone who passes by first, notices something like a statue of mary is fallen over so they pick it back up because it's pretty much the only thing they can do.. And then people come home and they notice that everything is destroyed, but see the statue up.. And it gives them some type of hope or positive in a time when it's needed.
Why would a god destroy all your shite then leave one item that has no value in that moment? It's like "Look, I could have saved a few lives, kept a few homes in tact, but I did make sure this statue didn't get messed up."

I'm looking at a brass crucifix I had resting above my door when I lived in Waveland for that shitshow. When I came back 7 days later there was nothing but a concrete slab left where my house was. Laying on the slab in plain view was the crucifix.
Buy it, because it happened to me.

Read about this on Facebook and made the mistake of looking at the comments. Amazing some of these people have a vote that counts as much as mine.

I did as well. I figured TD OT would elicit similar comments but for the most part, the OT seems to be more reasonable and level headed than FB, go figure.
