Well I'm pretty sure it's not reasonable for the priest to ask for anything....unless maybe you aren't a parishioner maybe.

Usually they do not ask, but traditionally you give the priest a gift of $100 or more.

Catholic weddings are the worst. Source: I'm Catholic

The last Protestant wedding I went to the ceremony was nice and short but the reception sucked. Punch, cake and M&M's. I'm not kidding.

I can take an hour long wedding any day when I have a Catholic reception to look forward to.

$500 for the church, and I think we did $100 for the priest.

Same for me. We had to pay the musician too

Betting that it wasn't a small parish church.

What's reasonable?

Getting married at one of the nicer churches in new Orleans soon... $2300 total. Church is not my parish.

So that should be the high end of the range. How far lower you should expect likely depends on what area you are looking at.

Yea that's IT. And the families usually tithe alot via checks at the mass(so they get credit!).

But this $2600 bullshite is NOT normal AT ALL.

Scratch that. I totally assumed yall were getting married in your parish. Yea if you're not a parishoner aka regular tither, they will set a fee. I take back my outrage. .

Got married 11 years ago at St Rita in Harahan.

Church was $250. Musicians were $250.

We gave the priest $100 which was a suggested donation.

Ya know what's worse than a catholic wedding? A baptist wedding followed by a reception with no alcohol.

I got my church for $200.

Helps when your grandparents are super active in the parish.

God needs money bra!

Matthew 19:21 Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."

Give it up!
