Yea I always assumed people were lying to avoid the embarrassment of spending the money, but I have about six different yeti products and the only one I didn't get in a raffle or event was a secret Santa Christmas gift.
I got one of their wine chillers at the last tournament I went to, and that wasn't even a prize to win. It was just part of a sponsored bag one of the companies was giving out to participants.
