Born March 18 1934
Played pro baseball in the Negro American League
(With another player - was traded for a used bus)
1966- released his first single w/ RCA
1967- sang In the Grand Ole Opry ( and has been a member since 1993)
1971- country musics entertainer of the year
Played in Belfast in 1976 during the height of N Ireland’s conflict (broke some ban or something. Supposedly loved by both sides?)
Has won multiple Grammys, had multiple #1 country songs, has sold millions of albums
Part owner of the Texas Rangers since 2010
Damn, that cat has had a helluva interesting life.
