That's a good way to look at it. Their corporate goal is not to make intellectually honest political statements.
They aren't trying to have a factually based political debate with their readers. They're just looking for the most efficient way to illicit a visceral response as a means to promote their brand.
They post something inflammatory, and like Pavlov's dogs, people respond by taking offense and then taking it viral to see who else found it just as offensive. This happens on both sides of the political aisle. Act like a sheep, get treated like a sheep.

Well Charlie hebdo has existed for many years and were really only discussed in any length prior to this due to a terrorist attack. So there is some reason it is brought up here and in other places today and I imagine it is because some got their feathers ruffled.

Again, I ask, are we all offended just because we are discussing this specific cartoon? The replies in this thread don't really jive with that, but that hasn't stopped you from figuratively sniffing your own farts.

I'm just not seeing the offendedness that you are. Regardless, I also don't understand why you'd criticise someone taking offense to this cover. This disaster is still happening and emotions are high.

I would have far more respect for them if they went after their own following the recent Aloha Snackbar events, you know the people that actuallu made it possible for the perps to be in the country (i.e. the French). Thats hard biting actual satire.
Going after the dead who drowned halfway across the world is just lazy and makes them look foolish, especially with such tragic stories floating around (the 18 month old surviving on her dead mother come to mind).

I don't see much outrage in here, honestly. It's mostly seen as flippancy. Nothing wrong with talking about it, unless your goal is to decry this type of content and limit its dissemination.
You see this all the time with Gravy FB posts. This placed has helped popularize (albeit infamously) his ideology. All while hoping to dissuade his inflammatory rhetoric.

I'm not - their whole MO is dumb and offensive - and the people directly involved of course will be offended so certainly not saying anything about them. Just like devout religious people of any faith would probably and justifiably be offended by many other of their cartoons.
It's the rest of the people not directly involved who selectively decide this is crossing the line because it hits closer to home. While I'm sure it's in large part human nature - I find the scenario amusing.
If you read some of the twitter wars and all about this you will see what I mean - it's not really as evident in this thread as I imagine most aren't really familiar with Charlie hebdo.
