The Confederacy was born in South Carolina. The first shots of the war were fired in Charleston. The Confederate Flag flew on our statehouse this century. This is the most retarded take I've seen on this site, and just imagine how retarded that must be.

I agree with this. I loved Charleston, but I prefer Savannah.

FWIW, New Orleans, despite being a shithole...

It is still the Jewel of the south imo.
(Not that will be in the future)

Doesn't Savannah have a paper mill that stinks up the place?

That would be a disqualifier.

Charleston is cleaner, safer overall, has decent beaches nearby, and is generally more upscale than New Orleans. The people are not nearly as nice and the place is overrun with Yankee transplants. However, it is much more traditional "southern" than New Orleans and most places in Louisiana. I lived there for four years and just moved away.

New Orleans, Savannah, and Charleston are all very similar on a spectrum. Charleston is the cleanest and safest but you can't drink in the streets and people are generally more rude, New Orleans is dirty with no beaches but you can drink in the streets, and Savannah is somewhere in between both. Food in NOLA/Charleston is a good bit better than Savannah on the whole.

Charleston is beautiful and a great city to visit. I personally prefer NOLA because it is bigger with more attractions, but I can see why some prefer Charleston.

I also like Savannah, but it is a couple of steps down.

I don't think anyone on the thread has mentioned Wilmington NC which has a little bit of a similar vibe but is much smaller and a couple more steps down from Savannah.

Most of the new money southern yuppies are from Mt Pleasant. (Across the bridge). The old money lives in The Battery.

False. New Orleans is more of a crack and heroin town. The meth is up in Slidell.

I like Wilmington better than any of the other three being debated. It's starting to get overrun, but it's still a fun, smaller city.
