Posted on travel board but thought I'd try my luck here too.

So I booked a hotel with free cancellation up to 24 hours before for tomorrow a while back for me and the gf and we decided after to go with a different location. My dumbass forgot to cancel the reservation and I just noticed the charge for 80 bucks show up on my account. Has anyone had something similar happen and had any luck getting it refunded. I'm going to call the hotel in the morning and everything but wanted to see if there were any good suggestions here first.

Thats a goodpoint. I dont think that 80 bucks is gonna break them much I just dont know which buttons to press first. I'm gonna try calling the site I booked it through first tomorrow and see what happens from there.

I feel like such a dumbass.

This is what you call "a life lesson".

$80 is pretty damn cheap for a life lesson. They usually cost me a lot more.

If you booked directly from the hotel you probably have a better shot, but still worth a call if it was Priceline or something.

Another life lesson I have learned is that almost everything is negotiable if you have a good attitude and get the right person on the phone.

Nah you’re right. I just hate spending on something I’m not using.

You should. For wanting your money back. They have every right to charge you, especially if they weren’t able to rent the room cause they were holding it for you.

I can’t believe it’s just $80! Where were you booked, Days Inn in Port Allen?

Do you have status with the hotel chain? If so, it never hurts to ask.

Start by explaining to them how poor you are.

I did this about 3 months ago, and got refunded.

HOWEVER, i rebooked a 2 night stay at a future date at the same time i talked to them, and i am also a past guest.

Live and learn, as it has been said.

Anither life lesson- sign up for hotel rewards cards. Even if you dont think you will use them often. They go a long way in your lifetime getting small perks

I'm not mad at them or even expecting them to refund it and I feel like it's a legit question but go ahead and attack people to feel better about your shitty life.

Since it's your room now, pop over and have a go on the bed nutting on the comforter. Take some towels and the Gideons bible while you're at it. In and out in 10 minutes.

Just to see if I follow.

You had free cancellation, but didn't cancel.

After the reservation date you realize you didn't cancel and want a refund.

I doubt you get refunded, a lot of us have paid for rooms we didn't use, at least you had the option to cancel. You missed the window.

So now you’re going to get an attitude and demand your 80 bucks back with the front desk worker for something you should’ve done, and in which they had nothing to do with ?

Just eat it and let it go man.

Did this once by calling the hotel directly. Mine was $1200 for 4 nights in Orlando. I was just polite and she felt sorry for me.

Doubt you have any shot at getting an outright refund since they held a room for you and you didnt show up. Try coming up with an excuse (like sudden illness or family emergency) and seeing if they’ll let you rebook for a future stay.
