Changing banks...
Posted by RandySavage on 1/20/18 at 8:41 pm12
Is there any downside to it? I've had Wells Fargo for like 20 years but Chase keeps sending me an offer of $500 if I switch and open up a checking/savings there. Thinking about taking them up on their offer.

If you're planning on making a big purchase in the near future, yes.

How so? It hurts your credit?

You will get a 1099 from Chase at the end of the year
Why not just open an account with Chase as a 2nd account?
You may get better answers on the money board

Chase is good but beware they aren’t national. Nonexistent some places NE and Midwest
The best deal I find if you’re mobile is with PNC. We have an account that I never pay ATM fees anywhere.
Our account has been open like 5 months and we have probably been reimbursed about $100.

quote:What do you mean? Besides maybe racking up some fees associated with an open but unused account, or waiting for funds to transfer, why would changing banks have any impact on a purchase?

I've heard this mentioned before but neither me nor my wife received one when we each did it.

Just don't ever try depositing a third party check with Chase.

For basic checking and savings, Chase is hard to beat. Their fraud protection is second to none, at least in my experience.

Fraud protection is excellent
Majority of ATM’s are walk up which is one of the main reasons I don’t have my primary account there

I had bad experiences with Chase and Bank of America. Wouldn't go back to either.

Way to be a dumbass. I was pointing out that depending on your location it might not be the best suited for you.
They don’t waive ATM fees.

PNC isn’t a national bank either.

Chase is terrible, stay away. Capital one is pretty solid and has decent interest rates on checking and savings accounts, and Wells Fargo is ok depending on your location.

Chsse reimburses my ATM fees, and they have a good web platform.
