The man who carried out the acts of violence against these officers came to Baton Rouge in response to the murder of 37 year old Alton Sterling by Baton Rouge Police Officer Blane Salamoni. The killer wrote a manifesto expressing that his views on the lack of justice when officers kill black people in America. The killer wrote, “I must bring the same destruction that bad cops continue to inflict upon my people, upon bad cops as well as good cops in hopes that the good cops (which are the majority) will be able to stand together to enact justice (and) punishment against bad cops (because) right now the police force (and) current judicial system is not doing so. A sacrifice for my people and a sacrifice for the people.”

Here is the thing, the man who shot those officers that day came to Baton Rouge because Blane Salamoni on July 5, 2016 killed Alton Sterling. What happened to both the officers who were shot and those who were killed on July 17th was wrong — so was the murder of Alton Sterling. This selective compassion that conservatives and pro-police people have is deplorable. The Black Lives Matter Movement has nothing to do with what happened to those officers that day. The actions of Blane Salamoni caused this city to nearly explode.
