I think all you need to do well on the MCAT is a UWorld subscription, internet access, and time. It’s all about individual effort IMO. I don’t think your undergrad will meaningfully bump MCAT scores. Just my opinion

At LSMSA she has a non weighted GPA 3.8 and ACT score is 34. The 12k per year for Centenary is after TOPS and Cent. offer.

I mean, I agree with you, but the data that some schools consistently outperform others isn’t made up either

What data/schools are you talking about, in particular?
If a college is harder to get into, you will have inherently better students by default. Inherently better students will largely be better medical school applicants. I think it has more to do with the type on student that goes to each university vs the content of the education.

That is certainly a big part of it, but even surrounding yourself around those types of people has value, even if that’s it.
Can you go the Northwestern and get in med school? Of course, but like you said, you don’t have any in your class. There’s obviously several reasons for that, likely including the caliber and rigor of education you are receiving

I agree certainly that your surroundings influence your outcomes.
Between the Centenary & NW with all things equal, I’d say Centenary.
Above all I think the best school for LSU-NOLA/Shreveport medical school would be LSU undergrad, though.

Good info. Thanks. LSU can be in the mix. She's received an offer from there. LSU is updating their offer because the original offer was based on her 8th grade ACT score.

I want to northwestern, I majored in Bio, minor in chem. I’m a doctor now. Went to med school in Shreveport.

My daughter graduated from LSMSA in 2018. She chose NSU which not only gave her a full ride but paid her. The biology and chemistry departments are really good and she got to do research with the professors who mentored her. She graduated with two degrees Summa Cum Laude.
She decided to go to the workplace route instead of more school and she hire on at Sasol in entry level chemist at $80k.
No debt, worked part time on the golf course and the paid her in cash the extra from her scholarships each semester. Really good deal.

If she’s already familiar with Natchitoches I’d go with NSU. Congratulations one way or the other. Sounds like you’ve raised a good kid.

I wouldn’t go to either if I wanted to go to med school
I’ve got friends from both that are doctors. Both colleges are fine.
Centenary is expensive by comparison. The advantage to both vs a school like LSU is the ease of getting your professor’s attention and being noticed/familiar with the people writing your letters. Also, professors taking an interest in you and caring whether you succeed is necessary for some, and that’s almost exclusive to small schools.
The NSU premed program was fairly strong when I was looking at it.
Never learned a ton about Centenary, but I’ve got three friends from there that are all exceptional doctors that all excelled at the Shreveport medical school.

If you love your daughter, don't send her to Baton Rouge.
