Well after tour, my daughter wants to go to Centenary....citing more research opportunities, internships at LSU SH, smaller classes, and pre med program. All tuition is covered. I / daughter will have to cover food and housing.
Thanks for all the info. Centenary coming in with some strong support here recently. I guess I have to visit this weekend.

Yes 34 on ACT, Future Scientist program, Athletic council, Classic scholors program, a stole for 2 years of Latin with an A.
Scheduled a tour of Centenary this month. Due dilligence.
She has been accepted to the NSU Scholors College. Not sure if that makes a difference...
with who she will be surrounded by.

Or you can go to medical school in the Caribbean and not even have to take the MCAT

Great info! Thanks

If she’s already familiar with Natchitoches I’d go with NSU. Congratulations one way or the other. Sounds like you’ve raised a good kid.

Thanks! Yeah she's really great.
She's very familiar with Natchitoches.

I’ve got friends from both that are doctors. Both colleges are fine.

Centenary is expensive by comparison. The advantage to both vs a school like LSU is the ease of getting your professor’s attention and being noticed/familiar with the people writing your letters. Also, professors taking an interest in you and caring whether you succeed is necessary for some, and that’s almost exclusive to small schools.

The NSU premed program was fairly strong when I was looking at it.
Never learned a ton about Centenary, but I’ve got three friends from there that are all exceptional doctors that all excelled at the Shreveport medical school.

Thanks for the info. Much appreciated.

agree certainly that your surroundings influence your outcomes.

Between the Centenary & NW with all things equal, I’d say Centenary.

Above all I think the best school for LSU-NOLA/Shreveport medical school would be LSU undergrad, though.

Good info. Thanks. LSU can be in the mix. She's received an offer from there. LSU is updating their offer because the original offer was based on her 8th grade ACT score.

At LSMSA she has a non weighted GPA 3.8 and ACT score is 34. The 12k per year for Centenary is after TOPS and Cent. offer.

I wouldn’t go to either if I wanted to go to med school. If she is serious and can actually get in, cost shouldn’t be that big of a consideration. Resources are going to be limited at both of those

So just don't go to those colleges. Got it. Any recommendations?

She's a Republican, even after 3 years at LSMSA. Got lucky. So not worried about pronouns.

Centenary vs Northwestern State

My daughter (no pics) is graduating this year from LSMSA. She will graduate with an Associate's degree. For college she is considering Pre-Med. Northwestern State has offered her a full ride and all of her LSMSA dual enrollment classes with transfer there. She is also considering Centenary. This will cost about 12k per year. Not sure which classes will transfer.

So O.T., anyone have good/ bad experiences at either college? Opinions on if paying the 12k a year is worth it? Or take the free ride from NSU?

Family member is in Coast Guard and will be stationed there. Just hoping to find an apartment in a good area. No kids, so schools are not an issue. So far, just googling around the tiny apartments are around 1400 a month.

Anyone have experience/knowledge about the best communities to live west of Portland? Yes, not my favorite place either. Just doing research for a family member that may move there.
