Bottom 4 makes sense. Poor people who can't afford heat would freeze to death, thus reducing the poverty number.

And those states aren't athletic and explosive.

So I think I see what the problem is. On the census website you can find the original table here.

It actually makes sense in this context as the top row is the "United States" row and the states are arranged alphabetically below, not in descending order. But whatever shite website that is, took the spreadsheet and reordered it without taking out the top row and now it looks sloppy and shitty.

Mystery solved.

Why is "United States" listed as one of the states? It's at 13.1 for anyone looking.

The fricking graph says "by state". The national rate could have been given in the article or simply marked with a vertical line to show who was above or below. This is a dumb graph and I don't like it.

Iowa also has a shitload of truckdriving jobs or industry related to serving truckers - thus keeping a lot of residents out of poverty

The bottom states are lily white states. Is there a correlation? Does institution racism play a role in poverty that manifests in this type of result? Does race have anything at all to do with it?

I'd say #of jobs relative to population is probably the main factor

A reminder that 60% of people in poverty in the US have:

A Smartphone
A/C / Heater
Dish Washer
Flat Screen TV (more than one)
XBox
Cable / Satellite
Clothes Washer / Dryer
Internet
Microwave
Personal Computer

Yes, after the Civil War the North just took a giant shite on the South. They wanted to end slavery but cared nothing about what happened after.

The correct term is "Reconstruction."

These are states full of people that accept everything that people in Louisiana (and, especially this board) reject wholesale.
