Hey guys
Going to Mexico for the week and have never been outside of USA.
I have AT&T and just curious how it will work if I don't do the international add on with them. If I have my phone on when I land is it charging me roaming fees? Resort has free wifi
I was going to use an app to make calls via wifi from resort. TIA

Leave it on airplane mode and I think you can use google voice to make calls over wifi

I would make sure Roaming is turned off, then turn of cellular data, then turn on airplane mode (you can have wi-fi enabled). If you mess up and use data, it's $15 per MB.

Go to the AT&T store and ask about their international packages. If you don't add an international package you will rack up some serious roaming and data charges AT&T switches to Chippie here in the caribbean and I think it is Chippie in Mexico too. Their 3G sucks arse and I wouldn't waste my money buying data just wifi. If you are going to use an app and wifi to make the majority of your calls then get the most basic package so that you have cell coverage in case you need to use in an emergency. Be sure you turn your cellular data off if you don't have a plan that covers international data.

Just did it. Disable LTE and cellular data and it will limit everything to wifi only. When you are on wifi you will get iMessages but no regular texts. Your phone will also not ring unless you have it set up with some wifi-enabled calling app. If you get in a bind enable your cellular data long enough to get a text out, it is usually $0.50 per, worth it if you absolutely need it.

This is the move. Leave it on airplane mode and use the resort wifi.
If you really need to make calls, then get an international plan for minutes

I know right, and who would visit the USA with all these riots we've been having lately?

If I'm in Carmel or Nantucket or Maui and I get wronged, I've got a better feeling about my future than if I were anywhere in Mexico.
Beaches?
There's plenty of places with beaches on at least a par with Mexican beaches.
Drugs?
Buying drugs in Mexico today would be brilliant.
Women?
Mexico has never been in the Top 10 as to domestic women.
The only reason to visit Mexico today is the cheap. I'm not a poor but even if I were I'd choose somewhere else to visit.

I'm not a poor and think mexico would be awesome to visit. it's so close to the usa but hardly anyone ever goes there (outside of the resort towns) because they are afraid of border violence and irrationally think the whole country is like thta

Trip paid for by my company as a bonus I won
5 nights all paid all inclusive 5 star, adults only, private beach
12 restaurants and 9 bars on site.
Yeah, I should probably cancel
