Up to 20% of pregnant women in the United States drink during their first trimester and more than 10% admit to binge drinking during that time, according to data released Thursday by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Nearly 65% of expecting mothers reported drinking in the past 12 months, the CDC said.

In addition, nearly 5% reported consuming alcohol at least once during the second and third trimesters, the CDC said.
Nearly 40% indicated that they also used at least one other substance -- most commonly tobacco and marijuana -- while pregnant, the agency said.
"Drinking alcohol during pregnancy can cause fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, including birth defects, behavioral disorders and impaired cognitive development," CDC researchers wrote in the analysis.

If it's before a positive test, I can understand that.

Most women aren’t aware they’re pregnant until at least halfway through their first trimester.

I mean are we talking drinking 4x a week or drinking a small glass/half glass of wine or something once or twice during the pregnancy?

And that was a very extreme case and circumstances. So can i tell her she cant drink? I feel i cant say that, but i can say be smart and responsible."

Friend,
All the more reason to ban the sale and consumption of alcohol in this land. Alcohol is the deadliest of drugs and leaves a path of ruin wherever it lands. Sadly, the great granddaughters of those who helped bring the glory of Prohibition to our shores are now lushes. Alcohol use should never be socially acceptable.

It's not like 1 sip of booze is going to harm a fetus. Getting buzzed on the reg might be more risky. Getting hammered on the reg has got to be a recipe for probs.

And this is why the CDC is idiotic. You are allowed to have a glass of wine/day, per the OBGYN's. My wife never did it, but the Dr. did say she could if she wanted.

It's just people who drink regularly continuing to do so until they realize they're pregnant and have to change their behavior.

20% isn't all that bad considering 92% were sloshed when they whispered 'cum inside me, it's ok'.

Wtf. I’ve only been pregnant for 9 of the past 12 months.

My wife had an occasional glass of wine while pregnant with both of our kids. Like maybe 4 glasses the entire pregnancies.
