Recently got a speeding ticket on the south side getting on the causeway (54 in a 35). I'm gonna go the route of paying it off and getting it off my record under article 894 or whatever, but I am extremely surprised (though I know I shouldn't be cuz Louisiana) at the price. $410 total with $150 just in court costs even though I'm not even going to court? Frick LA

inb4 quit breaking the law

Dude, slow down. They have signs telling about the speed changes about a mile ahead...

If there is one place that they don't mess around with speeding at all is on the Causeway and approaching it. There are more cops on there than any location in Louisiana. I either go the exact speed limit or only a few mph over. And to be honest, it's a safety issue since numerous cars have gone into the water, so it's one place I don't mind the enforcement.

You are going to use your one 894 on a speeding ticket?

Well, he can't use it on the armed robbery he plans on committing, so he is using it now.

One more mph, and it would've been a misdemeanor w/mandatory court appearance. He cut you a break

Yep. I still think the total is a little excessive, but there isn't much room for error or bad drivers on the causeway.

Mandatory court appearance is actually 21 over the limit.

Reference: I have a pending ticket from LSP for 80 in a 60 without mandatory appearance. In my work truck.

Well, you can't charge poor kulcha that for breaking the law. Louisiana has to fleece somebody to pay for the 8 troopers napping in the medians.

That’s not entirely true.

It’s only mandatory in Louisiana if the trooper gives you a reckless driving ticket. It’s upon the individual cop’s discretion. Some don’t give any if you aren’t driving at 100mph and above and some will give you one if you are 20mph over the limit.

In Virginia though, speeding more than 15 mph over the speed limit means automatic reckless driving charges. Virginia is also the only state where having radar detectors is illegal so the cops have a radar detector that detect other radar detector that detect radar.

This in Jefferson Parish?

If so, last I heard is it’s mandatory court appearance for 15MPH+ over.

Is "one time only" a hard rule for Article 894? I've been wondering about that for a long time. It seems like I've known people who used it over and over again. Maybe it's up to the judge or something.

It’s funny to see the same trash posters melting over drunk drivers when they are just as bad putting others lives in danger by speeding
