Catholic weddings are so overrated and just a waste of money. Spend a few grand on a reception hall, get married there and splurge on the honeymoon.

I just read they made some changes to wording etc in November, but nothing about wedding party size and age of ring boy. I think his priest is full of shite.

The Pope performed our wedding ceremony

Like everyone else on OT. We had a small backyard ceremony, he was particularly thrilled with my koi pond.

My daughter is getting married and came home with a document from the church yesterday. And they wonder why people are leaving the Catholic church. apparently the Pope has made some changes to weddings moving forward:
-No longer will there be unity candles
-Fathers may no longer give the bride away
-Music must be a live singer that works at the church
-Limited number in wedding party
All wedding party must be over 6 years of age
no longer can give flowers during service to the Moms
Only one photographer during ceremony

God suddenly got unhappy with things, or are we to assume this man in charge simply decided to make some changes?

ETA: Seeing as I have 2 upvotes for this I feel I need to explain I was not referring to the local preist, but to The Pope pulling new rules out of his arse. Let the downvotes reign in...

That must be that particular church. Those are not Catholic rules.

Did these literally just go into effect this week? Because I went to a Catholic wedding this past Friday and all of the bolded ones were violated. You sure this isn't just your church?

Sounds like a bunch of bs. Just did some research and only some readings and songs were changed.

Looks like we will have the wedding at the same place as the reception. wonder how many families will make the same decision.

Just out of curiosity, which of these is the sticking point. The only one I can see is the father giving away the bride, which admittly Is probably the last thing I'd cut from catholic wedding. The rest seem rather pedestrian and par of the course with the church's nonsense

The parish is lying to you man. My fiancé and I are planning a Catholic wedding and none of those rules apply...except for the Unity candle but that's a non-Catholic tradition and lame anyway.

I got married in the Church in 2015 in the diocese of New Orleans and none of those applied. Either the rules are very new or it's specific to your church or diocese. But regardless at is stupid as hell.

I'd get a second opinion. I think that's bullshite. I haven't seen any evidence of that. I'm calling "Fake News".

Not one of the weddings that Scruffy has been to recently followed those rules. All Catholic.

This is all the specific church rules.

I guess its too late in the game, but I'd find a new church. That priest is full of shite and obviously a control freak.

The father does not give the bride away is just a matter of semantics. You can still walk her up the aisle. But she is willfully entering the marriage, you don't need to give her to the groom (again just semantics). I think that's been in play forever.

The fact the Catholic church feels they should be making this many more rules to an already restrictive and ridiculous regimen just makes me dislike this sector of Christianity more.
