Consistent with CDC guidelines and the Louisiana State Department of Education, CHS strongly
encourages that masks be worn by all individuals who are not fully vaccinated, but CHS will not require
proof of vaccination status.
Interesting diversion from the local diocese, I know there was a long thread about that yesterday. This probably will create some butting heads.

I meant that the school laid out their policy and all their teachers and students will follow it.
If a priest wants to follow the diocesan guidelines he can. The students wouldn’t have to though. There will be not butting of heads between parents and the school

Just cuz you grew up Catholic doesn’t mean you have to keep doing it. Baton Rouge people are obsessed with belonging to the Catholic frat.

Or, and hear me out, it could be one of the best schools in the state and a great education so people really want their kids to go to it.

In that situation I believe the priests would probably wear a mask as that way he’s compliant with diocesan guidelines as Catholic’s doesn’t prohibit wearing masks either, just doesn’t require it.
I now see what you’re saying, but hopefully this doesn’t cause an issue for priests.

But a priest/brother who doesn't wear a mask is within CHS rules but against the diocese rules.
Brothers of a private Catholic order are not members of the clergy.

Good for them. It's about time someone in charge grows a set of fricking nuts and stops all this horse shite.

Agreed, parents wont have an issue. But a priest/brother who doesn't wear a mask is within CHS rules but against the diocese rules. Could put some in a hard spot and cause issues.
Thing is Catholic high isn't part of the local catholic diocese. They are part of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart. My kid goes to SJA and their tone was much like Catholic's and I am grateful for that bc I would be absolutely pissed if my kid was still in middle school.

My point is that the church long considers any clergy to be beholden to the diocese first, even if they work for a non-diocesan school. Which is why the clergy who work at CHS have to follow diocese rules before CHS rules. Usually, not an issue, but in this case they are different.
First of all, the brothers aren’t in administrative leadership roles at CHS anymore.
Second, what are you even talking about?
You think the diocese is going to come in and see if a Brother is enforcing diocesan rules about vaccination and masks?
Posted on 7/15/21 at 2:56 pm to DrEdgeLSU
The Brothers of the Sacred Heart do not give two shits about what the diocesan schools are doing.

Second brothers are not clergy and most of the admin (maybe even all of it now) are lay people.
Also I talked with a member of the CHS admin this morning and IIRC they will be following CDC guidelines.

Well, that would be my situation, and I can't say I'm happy. It's going to be fun explaining this one to the kids! One heading off to high school with ops normal, and the other at a feeder school breathing through cloth all day.

And the Diocese says they are as well... who's on first???
How many brothers actually are at CHS anymore? There are very few at Brother Martin or pretty much any religious order school. Few priests at Jesuit, few brothers at De La Salle or Rummel, etc.
Edit: According to the CHS website, there are three brothers on staff... two teach religion and one is a counselor.
