What's a good casual lace up dress shoe? I'm looking for a pair that can be worn with navy or khaki dress pants -- not a suit. Not boots or boat shoes.

Cole Haan ZeroGrand are legit. Very comfortable, dressy enough, feel like sneakers

Target has some with white soles that seem popular amongst the cool kids.

You are asking a board whose members have ‘good’ jeans for church.

I wouldn't even waste my time with Cole Haan.

Wait until you're walking through the airport and the sole decides to separate. Just cheap glued junk.

Allen Edmonds Strandmok. Can wear with jeans too. Has a reddish dainite sole too. Very comfortable. AE makes a brown snuff suede and blue, yes, suede version as well.

There are always the strands as well. A little dressier but can wear them with jeans, blues, or khakis. Probably best is the chili or walnut colors in strands.

Glued construction shoes are fine as long as the price reflects what you are getting because they are essentially a disposable shoe but in fairness, most people treat shoes as disposable. The one thing you don't want to do is let them sit in the closet for a long time without any wear. Odds are when you take them out and wear them the soles will delaminate before the day is over.

Some people think they are too busy. But I love them.

I was kidding about the 990s but they really are a good shoe.

But for casual I usually stick with sperrys especially during the warm months which is almost always.

CH Grand line has it's place. I don't wear them to the office much, but you could. I primarily wear them traveling, because they're an amazing shoe to walk 8-10 miles in and then put on a sport coat to go to a reasonably nice dinner.

My slack/jean shoes are usually oxfords in a more "casual" color, like natural chromexcel. I had some AE ones I'm going to have to replace soon, looking at places like Oak Street Bootmaker or Rancourt - they're pretty good at hitting at that well-made casual look.

I have the Higgins Mill boot that has that same leather, finish, whatever you call it. Gets compliments all the time.
