Some of these incorrect posts are almost getting enough up votes to make me question my original math.

I usually would just buy one, but the Misses said to get 5, whatever.

It's the third time I've bought tickets in a decade so I'm not sweating it. The other time it was a year or two ago when it was like 750mil I think. I don't drive the ten mins to TN for under half a billion boss. Anything less than that isn't worth my time.

Sure, but even if everyone at your office put up $20 it would still take 200 employees to buy that many tickets. That is a pretty damn big pool.

The ROI on the lottery, a loss of 95 cents for every dollar invested, makes my .05% checking account look like a 30 year T-note

Your odds dont jump that much. Its not as simple as fractions.

You're such an idiot.

Spending roughly $600M would guarantee a win by 'his' odds.

That is actually false when the jackpot is this high. Obviously you should factor in multiple winners, but with the jackpot this large and a single winner the expected value, after accounting for taxes, is approximately $.09.

M is a perfectly acceptable and common abbreviation for million. I'm going to assume you're being genuine and not simply trying to troll.

If I bought every number combination possible, I'd be guaranteed to win. I'm pretty good at math.

Exactly. Our office all threw in $20 and the boss dropped $500. We bought $2,000 worth. We're all in finance, so we know the odds. It's just fun and has been great for moral.

If you bought every combination possible, it would take you 1.5 years non-stop to fill out all the forms.
