I'm willing to wait for a water pail for my daughter to save money ordering on Amazon. I am not willing to save money and wait because I ran out of diapers. The personal timencost of doing cloth diapers is a deal killer for a few bucks to drive to and from the store.

And you accuse me of trying to change the argument You're not even talking cars anymore.

Doing your research AND buying from Carmax is the best way to go IMO

If you want to overpay and/or have to wait a few months, sure.

So how is your stance that you will be going somewhere else to get a better deal?

I've bought 2 vehicles from them, the price listed is definitely what you pay. I'm sure you could get a better deal elsewhere if you're a good negotiator, however I'm not so I prefer not having to deal with that bullshite.

Using an anology is often used as a method of educating your audience when they cannot grasp a concept. Seemed fitting here.

What concept do you think I'm not grasping?

I didn’t overpay precisely because I waited a couple of months. The trick is to start shopping before you need a new car. At that point time is not an issue.

And easier to get ripped off.

Good thing no one bought it in the months you were waiting for its price to come down. And what price are you comparing it to to say you didn't overpay?

You not being able to read would explain a lot of your posts in this thread.

I think you have finally just realized what I am saying and can't find a way to say I am right.

I mean, you resorted to insults....right?

I literally have no idea what you're saying. Your questions make absolutely no sense given what I've posted. I legitimately have no idea why you are asking the things you are.

ETA: At best I assume you're asking for me to repeat myself that cost is not the only factor. But that's meeting you more than halfway.

No buying method is more condusive to getting ripped off. Plenty of people have gotten ripped off walking into an old school used car dealership. No matter which method you choose, you just have to be smart about it and do your research.

If cost isn't the only factor (your words), how can you say Carmax won't produce the best deal at some point?

I'm really wondering if you have looked at how Carmax works or just basing your argument on assumptions.

Because I don't think having to wait months for the price on a a unit to drop is better than negotiating on it immediately. Anecdotal, but I have never heard anyone say Carmax has had the best price. So the choices for Carmax are buy now at an inflated price, or hope that it doesn't sell for a few months and the price drops. I feel all posts in this thread back this up.

Yea, I'm totally clueless.

So back to my first post, and only argument, in this thread:

It's no haggle because it's not the best deal you could get. If you aren't comfortable negotiating, it's an ok price. But the internet has really made the car buying process easier.

Yes. Fortunately they always have cars that have been sitting around a few months. Even today, they have cars that have had their price reduced in order to move them from inventory.

This isn't unique to Carmax though, so that is why the situation holds true across the market.

You don’t simply watch a single vehicle for 2 months. I watched vehicles of a certain make/model of a certain year range and price range and waited for the vehicle/price combo I liked to appear. I compared prices between Carmax, local used car dealerships, Craigslist...pretty much every source possible.
