Car Suggestions - ~$45,000 budget Here are the guidelines: 1) Used / Certified Pre-Owned 2) Low mileage - looking for less than 25,000 miles, ideally around 10,000 3) 2013 or newer I have not made up my mind on whether I want to go the car or SUV route hence this thread. Models I have been looking at: - Audi A5 - Audi S5 - Jaguar XF - Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland / Summit - Hyundai Genesis - Hyundai Equus - Mercedes E350 Just beginning the search...appreciate the boards advice.
I had the almost the same list minus the Hyundai, nice car but wouldn't spend that kind of money on one. I went with the Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland 4x4 and don't regret it.

Did you not find the Summit worth the additional cash?

Not if you are looking at older than a 2014
2013 and below go with Overland
2014 and above go with Summit

won't be able to find a '13 m3 for 45k

Any manual transmissioned BMW would work. 45k would get you a 5, not sure what engine package though.

Not reading all eight pages. Just stopping by to
at anyone who drives or recommends a Lexus. Don't bother replying, as I won't be coming back. Congrats on your Japanese, Toyota "luxury" car.

Get an 11. No big difference whatsoever and it's much better than the sluggish Audi S5.

according to the guys from the MB forum, you can negotiate ~10K off on the 2014 Mercedes E350.
Most MRSP about $60K, so $50K.
Actually that goes for a lot of 2014 models right now across all brands.

If you can find an Audi S4/S5 B8 in that price range is recommend going with that. I've loved mine so far. More than enough pep with a fantastic interior and very solid handling.

Do you also
What do you drive?

I see what you're saying, but the manufacturers you mentioned do not strengthen your argument. Toyota/Lexus, Honda/Acura, and Nissan/Infiniti are pretty much badge engineering. You won't find many parts in common when comparing a 911 turbo o a VW Passat...or when comparing a Ferrari 458 to a Fiat 500.

If that's your price range, test drive the Acura SUV.

Hyundai Genesis is a damn fine car. However, I would also look at a Toyota Avalon. Best car I ever owned and you could leave some of that money in your pocket.

You won't find many parts that are common between an LFA and a Camry either. Since you're apparently going to compare high end models to low end.

Engine longevity is debatable on the new ones, especially the small ones in foreign cars. They're very maintenance-particular.
For instance, mine has aluminum heads and a timing belt instead of a gear drive and iron heads like the big American diesels. While it's usually not an issue, going a few thousand miles over on a timing belt change could earn you a destroyed engine. I think a timing belt change at the dealership is close to $1k and good luck finding anybody else to do it.
Diesels are great, but you need to really do your homework if you're planning on buying a new one and driving it past the warranty.

Well, please find me a low end Porsche or Ferrari to compare then. Even the Boxter is still $65,000+...and you still aren't likely to find many parts in common with a Passat. So my point still stands - Jap imports are badge engineered. I admit, Lexus has gotten better about it as of late...but it's still a dressed up Toyota. That's just something I can't overlook.
ETA: Better argument would be comparing Audi to VW.

I agree with everything you're saying. It was just funny that you went with 911 turbo to a Jetta
Audi to VW is definitely the more apt comparison. The other guy beinging up Porsche and Ferrari was a little off base.
