So I appear to have a slow coolant leak. I've just been filling it up once a month or so when the dash indicator comes on. I'll likely have some long road trips for work in the near future.

I'm thinking it's probably best to just replace it at this point. I'm a little over 90k miles and as I understand it they're usually only optimal for about 80k anyway.

Does a full replacement sound like the best course of action?

Are you sure it’s the radiator? If so, replace it

Are you sure it is the radiator leaking? Maybe a hose or heater core etc

Radiator shop can repair/rebuild if you know thats the culprit.

It could also be a head gasket leak

Pretty sure. This all started shortly after I hit a deer on the road.

It's possible it's just a hose.

If the cost to replace the radiator isn't absurd I would think this would be the route to go.

It’s not terribly expensive to replace the radiator, especially if you can DIY or know someone who can. We replaced mine at home just a few months ago; I don’t believe we exceeded $150, all told. Good luck!

I'm on the road and don't have tools but I can't imagine it would be more than 1000 to pay someone to replace it. I'll start calling for quotes tomorrow

I have been adding every month or so like you for about the last 10 years. Currently at 325k miles so mine has lasted well beyond 90k miles.

Wasting time getting quotes until you pressure the system and find the coolant leak.....

You're right. Getting it tested should be the first thing

What vehicle?

That matters.

Some manufacturers aren't buying bargain basement radiators from china and Mexico.

Top of the engine. Touch the BMW symbol on the engine cover.

That's your issue.

Now go twelve inches to the right and look between your intake rails and see if you see coolant. All of those little hoses have a tendency to piss coolant.

Water pump/thermostat issue possibly.

I think unlikely because because this was caused by an impact but what do I know

If you know there was an impact why is it not replaced?

The vehicle as a whole was impacted, and BMW hosepipes and whatnot are made out of recycled Mardi Gras beads.

Because it's a very slow leak that didn't seem like a bit deal.

And I haven't had much time away from work to address it. That opportunity presents itself now though.

Car repair advice - radiator

I had the same problem. Took my car in for an oil change and my mechanic told me I had a slow leak in my radiator and that it needed to be replaced very soon. My dad knows cars so he talked to the mechanic and had him replace the radiator, thermostat, water pump and heater core. Apparently, those other 3 usually fail shortly after the radiator. All said and done, I spent $1600 on my 4Runner.

If I knew I could replace all of those for 1600 I'd do it in a heartbeat
