I am currently dreading the jump when my 15 yr old gets her license. The plan was to pass down the wife's 2012 car to her and buy the wife a new vehicle. Then, I checked out State Farm's ratings by vehicle, and learned that we are going to be better off buying wife and daughter a different vehicle since the cost to insure my wife's current car is much higher than the average vehicle. The point being, cheaper is not always better if the cheaper vehicle is rated poorly for certain things. The link below is what I found at State Farm, but I'm not recommending that or any other particular insurance, just something to consider.

Pretty sure USAA has the best rates around.

They don't but they have excellent service.

bullshite. I deal with them daily and they suck at service and payment of claims.

We have farm bureau and I've heard that it is the cheapest for boys.

That said when we had three drivers at one time but had four vehicles (one was a farm vehicle) we were told eacj vehicle had to have a primary driver assigned but we were all covered to drive each vehicle. We assigned him to the one with cheapest premium for the coverage.

I was given advice to lower daughters limits by agent?

I'm assuming the insurance company wanted to limit their exposure if/when your daughter gets in a wreck and leave YOU exposed to an excess judgment in the event your daughter seriously injures someone else.

Agents also love it when you don't purchase Uninsured/Underinsured motorist coverage (again, so YOU can pay the price if someone hits your daughter and doesn't have insurance).

They'd rather have you exposed as opposed to them. Insurance companies (i.e. profit seeking corporations) are not looking out for your best interests.

Raise your limits and make sure you get corresponding UM/UIM coverage.

Geico. I know people who saved a grand per year by switching.

If you have collision, then that will pay for your repairs if the person at fault doesn't have insurance. I don't have UIM coverage b/c my agent told me it was to cover hospital bill, loss time from work, or other expenses along those lines and I have insurance through work that will cover those things.

UM coverage does not work like this. Comprehensive covers repairs when someone doesn't have insurance.

UM is the money train if you ever are able to file a legit UM claim.

Young driving, boy I have some stories. My father's hair went completely white worrying I'd somehow get him sued for everything he was worth.

Looking back, the man should have taken out 5M worth of umbrella and said F it and not worry about a thing.

I think my insurance alone was $180 a month back in 01-02

Car Insurance question
I pay $6600/yr with Progressive for 3 vehicles for myself, wife, and 16yo daughter.

Son, you getting your a-hole ripped up. I have Geico with a new high performance car and pay $83 a month. My GF on her honda pays $50. We're 30 and 27. We carry 250/500 too plus an umbrella policy.

How is this even possible?

ou will be hard pressed to find cheaper than USAA. Maybe, MAYBE State Farm but probably not.

State Farm is insanely fricking expensive unless you have been with them for 25 years. Geico wipes the shite out of them.

Baton Rouge back in 2001. Man, my dad used to lose his shite over wrecks. I had three between 16-18 LOL. God damn he used to get mad at me.

I haven't been in a wreck that was my fault since I was 18 though lol.

Agreed. I'm 24 and pay 950$/6 mo

I have Geico and when I bought my first truck when I was 24 I got on my own insurance (Full and everything with renters and the works) and my rate was $72 a month.

I'm now 26 and my rate has jumped up to $81/month for God knows why, probably because my truck took like $10K in damage from a tornado this past year.

Those amounts are insane.

That would be UEO(Economic only) Regular UIM would cover those things plus general damages including pain and suffering, loss of enjoyment of life, mental anguish, loss of consortium, hangnail, etc

I would drop rental, towing, uninsured motorist, and medical to minimum state requirements if you are a good driver and have medical/dental through your company

I agree. I'm talking about injuries/death though.

Sure, my health insurance will cover some of the medical bills if myself and/or family are hurt in an accident, but not all. It also won't pay for lost wages, non-economic damages, etc. That's what I have UM/UIM for.

Also, Mississippi stacks UM/UIM coverage. So if you have a $100K/$300k UM/UIM policy and 3 cars, you will have $300K/$900k in coverage if shite hits the fan (which is only offset by the amount of insurance the tortfeasor has). I'm not sure if LA has stacking.

It's just piece of mind for me. And I also don't have a teenage driver yet. I might change my tune when it gets to that point.

GEICO will also get you sued. You rear end someone who incurs $2,000 in medical bills, GEICO will make their best offer of $2,000 - $2,600 to settle the case. Then a suit is filed and you get to answer interrogatories, be deposed, and be hassled in general.

State Farm, in my experience, was generally pretty good about making a good faith effort to fairly settle most cases. Less hassle for their insureds.
