Idiot

I go through 3-4 windshields a year.

With State Farm my deductible was $50. After a few years and 6 windshields later they finally forced me to raise my deductible to $250.

I literally just got a new windshield Monday and the total was almost $500 and I had to cut them a check for $250. I always use Safelite because they come to my office.

$500 for a windshield? You can get them for under $200. Don't go to safelite.

I get it, but you obviously know the numbers are in your favor as the driver. Insurance companies aren't giving you a deal.

I live in Florida. There have been 4 accidents outside my office this month alone. State Minimum here is $10,000 for Property Damage. I'll be damned if I'm paying any kind of deductible because some underinsured clown hits me. It happens all the time here. I'd rather transfer all the risk to my company for a few more dollars a month. I also carry much higher Liability Limits than most.

That’s how insurance works dude. They’re responsible for the damage according to your policy at the time of when it happens. Shitty breaks but that’s what it is and how it should be honestly.

A windshield is not something you want to go cheap on trust me. Those aftermarket windshields suck compared to getting an OEM windshield installed.

You work for an insurance company. You know they clearly charge you for the risk + profit margins. That's all I'm saying.

Yeah but you have to schedule an appointment, drop it off, get a ride, be without a vehicle for a day, get another ride, it’s a pain in the arse

I’d rather call Safelite, have them show up at my office the next day, have it changed out in just over an hour, with a warranty, they are very professional.

Correct

An insurance company isn’t selling a product it loses money on

Technically that's incorrect. Auto insurance is always priced at a loss, usually the target is losing .03 on every dollar. Insurance companies make money by investing earned premium.

Yea that won’t work.

And why wouldn’t it? Did OP explain to the claims department, exactly where the damage occurred? You’re telling me, it’s not possible to receive additional damage to the windshield, after the fact?

I had a windshield on my LS430 replaced at home for $200 a couple years ago. Pilkington or whatever the original was.

You have to call a trusted mechanic and they will get you the name of someone who does it on their own.

That underwriting loss includes overhead though. It's not purely based on risk.

He's not asking what a deductible is. He is asking why the hell someone would pay a likely very high premium for such a low deductible

Well tbh lowering comp deductibles dont affect the price as much as lowering collision deductibles. I mean the premium does go up a little bit but not as drastic as you would think. Lower collision to 100 and you would see a big premium hike.

The claim was already filed and documented, how stupid do you think claims departments are? They have idiots like you trying to commit fraud daily. The original damage was never fixed, the old deductible applies. It doesn't matter if there was more damage, technically that is a separate loss. They aren't going to pay out twice to fix the windshield once.

I hear you, but like I said. I used to have a $50 deductible and Safelite would come to my office the next day.

Now my deductible is $250 and they still come over the next day.

I don’t mind paying a little extra for convenience

Not to mention I have pulled over 3 dump trucks in the past 10 years and had them pay for a new windshield

Expenses are factored in but that isn't considered profit. Profit would be after we pay all claims and expenses we are still making money on the premiums. That's simply not the case for any insurance company in the US.

Yeah you’re full of shite. You must be an adjuster, and work for an insurance company. There’s no way anyone would go out of their way to defend an insurance company like you’re doing. But keep up the good fight

I already said I was an agent. You have no substance to your argument. I'm not defending anybody I'm just telling the truth. How sad is it that you are encouraging insurance fraud? Pathetic.

The fact that you're ignorant on how insurance works doesn't make it a scam.
