Is it possible to stop your car insurance premiums from slowly creeping up? It's been about 6 1/2 years that I've been on my own plan paying my own premiums. I pay every 6 months. So that's about 13 times I've paid my bill. Every single time, the rate is higher than the last period by 50 to 100 bucks (over the 6 month period). Only time it's gone down is changing insurance companies, but by the next billing cycle with that company, it's a little bit higher again.

I've about had it with my current insurance for this. I pay about 300 more every 6 months compared to when I started 2 years ago. No way that's adjusting for inflation or anything. I am bundled with home insurance, so I have to find a good rate for that as well.

I just don't see how they can constantly do this. I've got 0 at fault accidents or tickets. Is this just common practice?

Shop it at renewal and look into raising your deductible as well as lowering your limits of liability if too high.

I know that I can get lower rates shopping it. But I know at the new company, they are going to play this same game. I'm shopping this period since the bundle is starting to not be worth the obviously higher car insurance rates due to creeping costs.

You can question it, threaten to leave if they don't reduce your costs. But in the end you are better off changing insurance every 3 years or so. The new company wants you and will give you a deal. Rinse and repeat. It's a pain, but the couple hours of your is well worth it.

If you are eligible for USAA, your rates shouldn't go up. Mine have gone down in the last 3 years with no tickets or accidents with them, ever.

Correct. I've heard to get quotes every 5 years. 3 years would work too.

Fairly common. Insurance companies hook you with low premiums and those premiums creep up over the years with them banking on you not switching insurances. It's best to switch every few years because of this.

A few years ago I had the bare minimum coverage, but then I bumped it up to about the mid-range mark and it actually went down $15/mo, but I have USAA though and its only $110/mo anyway.

I had to downgrade my insurance recently because its getting so expensive. Actually considered going with The General or Go Auto for a little while.

they may incentitize an early quote or new business discount which is nominal in the grand scheme of things but base rates are not planned bc of new business and/or hoping you don't switch. Auto liability in this state is shitty.
