Canadian Born Punjabi Trucker Goes Off on Immigrant Truckers

There's an Indian restaurant near a truck stop 3 exits down from me called Punjabi dabi.

We eat there occasionally but the amount of Indian truckers coming into that place is insane.

Is every trucker an Indian now?

I've continued down the rabbit hole today because I'm easily fascinated by things I had no idea existed.

So, people are complaining that because Trump is cracking down on immigrants drivers, there will be a shortage of truckers (some say as many as 200,000 empty slots that need to be filled).

So, I went on some forums and found that there are many truckers that quit 5-10 years ago because the pay had gotten so bad, and that Americans who wanted to enter the industry were discouraged because immigrants would work for less.

So, I ran some numbers.

In 1980 the average yearly earnings of a long haul trucker were $38,618 which adjust for inflation $143,273/year. That's a nice wage, if you're willing to do a very difficult job. But the actual wage in 2025 is $76,000. That's almost 50% below what it should be. No wonder Americans said, "frick this 25/30 days on the road a month shite. I'll do something closer to home for that and get to sleep in my own bed at night."

If the companies can no longer pay cheap, barely skilled labor rates, they will be forced to raise the pay to an acceptable level and I know a ton of young men with a bit of wanderlust that would be willing to do a job that pays $150K a year and requires no college education at least for 5-10 years. So, the shortage is largely a myth put forth by the freight companies and brokerages to get away with hiring cheap labor.

American companies are addicted to immigrant labor -- and cutting corners. There are people to do the job, but you have to pay them what they are worth.

And don't give me that shite about passing the price on to the customer. Some CEOS and Mid to Upper level managers are going to have to take a haircut.

ETA: Oh, and it might just be confirmation bias, but about 10 years ago there was a surge in food recalls for E.Coli and Listeria...and now NUCLEAR EGGS! Those recalls were very rare when I was in my twenties and younger. And now it's every month. Curious.

Or Latino.

Last year when they had a big storm that shut down Donner Pass, most of the stranded truck drivers were hispanic.

Administration is far to worried about the wrong border. Mexicans come here and at least hustle hard in construction jobs.

Indians are thieves, plain and simple, they lie cheat and steal their way into jobs they have no business being in and create a royal mess of everything to collect a paycheck. They will undercut everyone and take a job they are knowingly unqualified for just to get a paycheck.

It is even romanticized in their country, they have an entire comedy skit about faking interviews on Indian Netflix.
