Personalized plates, like personalized checks, should be a thing you find cool when you first get your first car, but then realize you're paying extra money for something utterly useless.
If you find it cool long after that, then you're either a douche or an idiot.

Someone I know is into amateur radios (ham radios) and has his handle as one. Only amateur radio enthusiasts know what it means most of the time. In this case, I'd have to say yes IMO.
ETA... Radio handles usually appear as random and alphanumeric.

Living in Virginia was horrible as almost every other car there is personalized. It cost something like $10 there so it has the highest rate in the country.

I don't need any special lettering/messages, but some of the specialty plates (different designs) you can get are kind of cool. I like the Louisiana LSU and Saints Superbowl Champions plates and the black Texas plate with the white star.

When I lived in NC years ago, everybody in the state had personalized plates, it seemed. I never registered a car there, but I heard it was only like an extra $5, at the time, to get personalized plates.

I have a Troy plate on my Jeep. In Alabama it is an extra $50 for a personalized plate or a specialty plate, like for Colleges and Universities, or other charitable things like the Pink Tags for Breast Cancer. But if you already pay the $50 for the specialized plate, they don't charge you more for the personalization. I have my initials and my graduation year on mine. The standard plates have 7 characters available, but the specialty ones usually have less. I know the Troy ones you can only put 5 characters on it because of the Troy Logo on the left side.

Yea I just got a black car and I hate the normal tx plates so i went online to get on of the black ones and was playing around with the personalized plates. Can't think of anything that isn't taken or wouldn't be retarded.
