can you buy a double din LED radio with built in navigation system?

or do they all require you have a service or link to your phone to work?

i got an 04 silverado basic work truck and need a new radio so it would be great to have navigation while im at it

is there any with offline navigation options that use downloaded maps to do it?

The last several cars I've owned have had factory gps nav, and I never use it because the apps on the phone are more up to date and faster.

Is there any major reason you wouldn't want one that uses your phone?

Yes. Go to Crutchfield

Wiggins beat me to it. But I just used them for my 2003 4Runner. Didn't go with the built in GPS one since the one I got has Android Auto.

I upgraded my 2007 f150 with a new 6.8” screen with “Apple Car Play”. It co. Extra to your phone and then displays whatever apps onto your stereo screen. Well worth it!

The phone apps are nice, but what happens when you’re in the boonies and have no cell signal?

That’s why a dedicated GPS is nice to have. Works everywhere.

You can download the map ahead of time and access it without connected internet. This assumes you didn't end up out in the middle of nowhere by accident though.

But it still won’t tell you where you are on the map or give you directions.

BTW, We were in the Smokies this past week. There’s basically no cell service inside the park, so if you don’t have a GPS, you’re fricked.

thats what im after, a completely offline navigation system that doesnt need internet service or phone link

something i can download a navigation data map into thats self contained and doesnt need a service or internet connection to work

i have no internet phone, its a $30 flip phone that just makes and recieves phone calls and thats it and thats all i will ever need.

its very misleading trying to shop for a radio when some say it has navigation only to find the fine print say it has to use your phone to get navigation. that is NOT navigation, its just another BT link to your phone.

some even say built in navigation and then the fine print says whats built in is link support to your phone to get navigation
