Can we discuss these internet speed scams in Louisiana?

I’ve never lived in a city in Louisiana that had adequate internet speed.
In Baton Rouge, Cox would be lucky to deliver 8 mpbs
Now in Lake Charles, Suddenlink is consistently delivering a whopping 5 mbps.
I have the highest tiered service and you get about the same speed as the lower tier service. Is this a Louisiana phenomenon? I haven’t had this in any of the other places I’ve lived: Texas, MO and VA.

Idk man, LUS fiber consistently pumps 135 mbps to my house and I only pay for 100. Ditch the coax cable gimmick and get a fiber service like AT&T fiber.

Pretty close and via WiFi

Eatel in Gonzales is extremely reliable. I get 150 down for 65/mo

How can I measure my speed? I have the wonderful service of Cox in New Orleans

Have your wife drive the car next to you while you’re running.

Well you’re lucky. Lake Charles suddenlink is hot garbage and there isn’t any competition here. They consistently put out crap service and tell you to suck their balls when you complain.

Download speed test by Ookla. A great tool. Either go to the website on a computer or use the app on your phone

Sorry
Hopefully 5g rolls out and you will have another option.

cox has their own speed test on their website as well

Lake Charles isn’t worth investing in fiber infrastructure I suppose. Probably be the last to get something of the sort.
I’ll just call on Monday and drop the service from the $90 option to the $30. About the same speed.

Arkansas AG is going after them.

Have you looked into AT&T DSL? I used to have that in Lafayette before fiber and never had an issue with getting 50mbps, what I was paying for at the time.

Lake Charles has one option of Suddenlink.
I’ve heard rumors of Cox being available in Sulphur but I wouldn’t know.
There literally are no alternatives. Lake Charles is a weird country town. It somehow started booming in industry about 4 years ago and its got no real infrastructure support.
I’d say I’m surprised the technology infrastructure sucks but I’m not. I just wanted to vent.
This the same place that everything but the casino closes down by 8PM.

I have home ATT that rings in at whopping 30-50 mbps.
I did have Cox install a separate internet line when Covid lockdown hit for working at home purposes. I’ve legit calculated it over 900mbps when not logged into the work setup. It does drop to 200 mbps but that’s due and from behind work firewall as best I can tell.
Edit : Nola metro area

Suddenlink is your problem. They’re involved in multiple class action lawsuits across the country, and it’s snowballing.
Get out as soon as you can. Serious. You’re going to have hell cancelling, so go ahead and start now.
Edit: if it’s your only option, you’re fricked until you move or a reputable company moves in.

But you have Darrell's, so that’s at least something.

Get a COX or whoever business account at home with an SLA and pay 400 to 1200 per month. Your residential connection is best effort, and the bandwidth is always oversold. Which is why it is also so cheap.
If you can find fiber in your area that would be better too, even on residential. Dumped my COX business acct at home once ATT got fiber in the neighborhood. Consistently over 800 Mbps all the time and 1/5 the cost of the slower business connection I had with COX. Only had 2 outages in as many years, and both were from people cutting the fiber In the neighborhood not ATT.
