Another thing about baseball is that it puts the spotlight on the batter, pitcher, or fielder. In other sports like football, basketball, or soccer, a kid can hide on the field. It’s hard to hide in the batter’s box. A pitcher can embarrass a batter. A kid that goes 0 for 4 with 4 strikeouts every game will not enjoy the game and will quit. The kid that stares down the pitcher and hits a bomb ends up loving a great game, sees his hard work pay off, gains confidence, and can play on his high school team if he chooses. It’s about giving kids the opportunity to be successful and to like the feel and smell of grass in the spring.

It's extremely obvious to recognize which posters are idiots that have no idea what "travel ball" is like. Yes everyone would like it to be the way it was when you grew up, but it's not, and it's not going back that way. If your kid is even halfway decent, you can't play rec ball.

95% of "travel ball" teams, aren't traveling anywhere. Teams in Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Lafayette, they don't have to go anywhere outside the area to play every weekend. If you are in Houma/Thibodaux, or Hammond, then yeah, you're going to do a bit more traveling. Most play 2 weekends in a row, then take a weekend off, then 2 weekends in a row, then a weekend off, and do this from March to June, playing around 10 tournaments. Some end in a World Series in Branson or Pigeon Forge, which is fricking expensive and i'm not doing that crap, some just play a "world series" in Lafayette or Gulfport".

The vast majority of these teams pay under $2,000 after all the fees and uniforms and what not.

pretty spot on

The one thing that aggravates the crap out of me is paying $10/day to watch my kid play. I already bought an assortment of wrist bands for $7 on Amazon and will be the cheap dickhead that gets in without paying as often as I can. 2 parents, 2 days each weekend, 10 weekends, $400 fricking dollars to watch my 11 year old play baseball? frick that. and they hide it under the guise of its for whatever charity that weekend. Sorry but i don't want to donate to the charity, and i don't give a shite what anyone has to say about that. Basketball entrance fees are even worse. Soccer on the other hand, is free to watch your kids play. All three of those sports cost about the same to play "travel ball", and are all similar in format, but all you hear people bitchign about it is "travel baseball". Travel basketball is 10x's worse than travel baseball in every possible way.

well tournaments cost money to host so I dont mind paying as i know the fields cost, staff cost, clean up etc

quote:

f I can watch the game from outside the park from the outfield without paying to get in, I will. I can't stand being around most of the parents, the idiotic arguing from coaches over calls, and the general atmosphere of the sport. Nothing irritates me more than some dumbass mom playing whatever new rap shite, or new country rap shite over her giant speaker every second she can between innings and breaks. I love that OTC doesn't allow this.

you sound wound up...need to relax some

Our softball team pays $300 for fall and $300 for spring. This includes 8 tournaments in the fall, 8 in the spring and uniforms.

We are paying $0 of that $600 because my daughter got 2 sponsors.

ya'll put up a sponsor banner when entering a dugout?

Funny how travel ball dominates OT conversations

Because of the OT make up it makes sense. Decently off, professional type parents with moderately athletic kids. Have disposable income to prioritize baseball via travel ball. Not saying it’s a bad thing, just is what it is.

They do. And that banner saves $600 for me, so why would I complain?

cause you lose all dignity needing assistance paying for $600 a year. I have no idea how $600 covers all entry fees, umpire costs, uniform cost, team equipment cost etc. I think that's a load of bullshite but hey, if somehow your team is making that happen, good for you.

yea our cost for tournaments and umpires last year was 7300 just for spring and that was without some big world series and was doing select series so got 6 tournaments for 1500 or would have been more.

the pg nit tournaments are 500-750 just for entry...sometimes more.

Listen, guy. Mind your own business. I almost made it to the Bigs, and my son has a real chance, too. He's not going to blow it, if I can help it.

Just looked. Softball tournaments run between 100-150 per. Some tournaments are free entry. No clue how FASSSA and USSSA do the umps, but I don't recall our coaches ever paying umpires. Maybe the free entries they pay umps, not sure.

Negative two companies we work happily gave $500 each. In 2 minutes we were covered. I'm not complaining. Team she played for before was slightly more expensive, didn't play as many tournaments and didn't do the sponsor thing.

I'm not saying its vastly off but ya'll must be playing in some cheap arse tournaments. I always remember us usually paying umps close to $40 a game. Avg 5 games a weekend, that's $350 maybe minimum team cost to play. Usually a team will do a bigger world series trip with a much higher team entry cost. That alone can sometimes nearly double the dues amount needed. Also, your uniform package must be really low end as well. Fetching sponsors for such a low budget activity is pretty bad.

shite...thats nice...yea for baseball its pay at the plate, every tournament is pretty much minimum $250 and every game is $55 that you give to umpire at coin flip. so if you play 5 games on the weekend...its $500 pretty easily.

so 10 tournaments is gonna be 5k minimum. if you have a good team and want to play PG super nit in BR its $450 to enter, 55 per game.

houston nit is 750, beaumont is 600. plus 55 per game

select series is 1500 for the season. 2d nit is $300 plus 55 per

13/14u is 60 per game for umpires...adds up quick

I just pulled the FASA site (didn't look at USSSA) but all tournaments were listed at $100 or $150.

$600 times 12 kids is $7200
$150 times 16 tournaments is $2400

We may have a mom that works for a print shop, bc she's always getting hoodies and stuff. So maybe they get a nice deal on uniforms. I have no clue. Also I believe 4 of those 16 tournaments were free entry. That's plenty of money to cover everything.

first off, fasa is low level shite.

second off, you're completely missing the PAP $45 per game.

frick.

I'm not sure how they handle umps but I don't recall any exchanges of cash to umps.

Try reading. I've said that I don't know how the handle umps, but I do know that I haven't seen this be a thing.
