As a person who wears a suit multiple time a week, it’s perfectly acceptable not to wear ties with a suit generally. Yes, there are certain occasions where a tie should be worn. Generally, this happens when everyone else is going to wear a tie.

All the dipshits in this thread trying to claim something other than what I just said is either some old frick or someone who has no style. The tie is the most useless piece of clothing worn by men. Everybody understands this. If you prefer to wear the most formal attire at all functions then by all means where a tie. However, people mistake dressing in formal wear as making them sophisticated or classy. This doesn’t make you either. You can cuss like a sailor and drink to you’re blacked out drunk in a suit and tie.

Personally, I choose the no tie look because of a few things. I hate ties. The no tie look is actually a style. It’s slightly less formal and presents me as approachable and down to earth. You have to know who you are going to be around and what are you trying to convey by your attire.

A guy wore a black leather racing jacket with patches and leather pants to a funeral I attended. Looked like Evel Knievel or Elvis sitting across the isle from me. I spent the whole funeral wondering what his deal was. He was actually the ex-husband of the the lady's sister, and he actually races motorcycles. Doesn't explain why he'd wear it to a funeral.
