It's apparent I have an invasive root system in waste water drain pipes in my yard not far from tie-in to the city. I rented a drain snake but not strong enough or as big as what Roto-Rooter uses. I will NOT consider Roto-Rooter again... years back they quoted $250 at another house, when finished they'd come up with some B.S. "extra work" story that made little sense and tried to swindle $1,000 from my wife...who wasn't going to hear it and sent them on their way...

Anyone know someone reasonable? TIA

If you are in Baton Rouge, Rooter Man (locally owned) charged me $225 last week.

for roots to get into the sewer line, the pipe is cracked or broken. "IF" you get them cleaned, it will happen again. that is if the "cleaning" doesnt destroy the pipe completely

could also try a root killer into the lines and it be less evasive. no idea if they work or not

I rented a big snake with a cutting blade from Home Depot to clear mine, followed it up with a treatment from Root X. Works best if you have en exterior clean out and not pulling up a toilet

Not as long as I tried to get an apostrophe instead of an "i" after the M to work with the name M'Coxen. Apparently punctuation marks are not allowed in user names.

Thanks, that would be perfect. I'll give him a call.

Used them last week. They were the only company I could get out on a Friday afternoon and water was backing up in my bathroom. I think it was $248 but the guy was here a few hours and had to take off one of my toilets.

True but I've had roots get into a poorly sealed clay pipe in one older home without cracking. This house went up in 1961 and there is still a good bit of iron pipe. A little odd is the side with bathrooms has PVC coming into the clean out then PVC out to the tie in. It is completely separate from the other waste water drain line on the other side of house. The other side that is stopped up has iron pipe all the way to the street and I have yet to be able to locate a clean out.

I just got off the phone with Rooter Man and they get here at 2 tomorrow. They didn't seem surprised there is no clean out on the kitchen / utility room side of the house and they are used to going in via the vent stack at the roof level... which they will do tomorrow. There's more to the story concerning possible broken pipe but just want them to break the blockage for now.

Thanks for an awesome recommendation. The "Rooter Man" just left.

Highly recommended is an understatement. I don't know everything about plumbing but I've bought and renovated about a dozen pre-1950's homes in LSU Lakes and Garden District areas. I've had more than my share of plumbing debacles.

If anyone calls Rooter Man, ask for Dwayne, he's a licensed master plumber which is cool but I've had two other plumbers here over the past months... and within 5 minutes of listening to what I told him, I he told me damn near opposite of what I assumed and others told me was wrong and needed to be done. I wondered if I'd made a mistake but he seemed confident enough to let him have at it. 30 minutes later he'd solved and fixed what I had estimates of $600 and $800 for... ...and charged $209.

Rooter Man is apparently a locally owned franchise with several guys making calls but ask for Dwayne if you want someone who knows what he's doing.

5 stars.
