Back story: since January, I’ve been fighting allergy/sinus issues. And recently, it’s become pretty bad. Every day it’s something, whether it’s the itchy/watery eyes, complete blockage of my sinus cavity, runny nose, itchy throat, you name it…. For awhile, I thought it was just a seasonal type of thing, but I’ve come to realize that this whole issue starts and ends at my own damn house. I've completely deep cleaned my house - bedding, curtains, floors, etc have all been cleaned. Ive dusted, mopped, taken care of all the crap laying around the house, etc, but I’ve yet to find anything to stop the constant allergy attacks and lately I’ve just been miserable around the clock and it’s only been at my house. When I leave for work, I slowly start to get better throughout the day but as soon as I return home, it almost immediately starts creeping back.. I don’t know what to do anymore.

My quality of life is shite right now. I need answers and I need them fast. I don’t want to continue on like this because it’s been fricking miserable.. so I’m here to ask, have any of y’all ever dealt with something like this?? Also, have any of y’all had any success with air purifiers for your home? I don’t know what to do at this point, any suggestions will be appreciated/considered

Sorry if this is sloppy and doesn’t make sense. Hasn’t been a great morning, I can’t see and my face is leaking

If you’re having issues that serious, you might want to have your air ducts checked for mold.

To more directly answer the OP, I have one of these in my bedroom: Coway Airmega AP-1512HH(W) True HEPA Purifier with Air Quality Monitoring, Auto, Timer, Filter Indicator, and Eco Mode, 16.8 x 18.3 x 9.7, White LINK

The newer version right next to it is cheaper right now, so no reason not to get that instead, or watch for a deeper sale.

Anyway, I have a maid that comes once a week, no carpet, and no pets, and the amount of dust this thing still pulls out of the air is staggering.

I had an oval Honeywell thing for my basement and was getting a musty smell a lot. Turned out it was the Honeywell unit. You have to constantly replace the filters and they are a pain to cut and fit in there. My boss gave me a Dyson fan/purifier thing like this and the air seems a lot better.

I don’t have carpet at all in my house, but I do have a dog with short hair. I’ve had dogs my whole life and I’ve NEVER had issues this bad (not saying he isn’t the problem though)

My ducts are newish, house was built in 2018 but I guess that’s more than enough time for mold to form. I’ll get that checked out

We have parrots and they make a lot of dander. I have 4 of these throughout my house

BISSELL air320

They blend in due to the design to look more like furniture and do a great job

Do you have carpets? If so rip them out. Coway air mega is a good HEPA. I'm sure there's alot of good ones.

Is there anything that I can use to check the air quality in my house?? I’ve seen air allergen test kits, has anyone ever used them?

You basically take a sample of the air in different parts of your house and mail it off to a lab for testing…

If you want one that actually works get the aspen air purifier. Its about $1700 with $250ish on yearly filters.

We have 4 big Atmosphere air filters. Air conditioner washable filter, Hepa filter, big activated charcoal one too. Before I started using those, I'd wake up and cough for a few minutes in the morning. The filters made a huge difference.

NYC air isn't clean. The sky after a 3 day holiday turns bright blue in contrast to its normal shade.

African Grey parrot would greet me in the morning by making a coughing sound.

I have been told UV is not effective in an A/C. The primary reason is that the air passes by too quickly for the UV to kill bacteria. In places like commercial kitchens, hospitals, etc where the UV illuminates surfaces continuously it is effective, but it simply does little or nothing to air that passes through it in a split second.

Don't overthink it. Get a HEPA filtered system that is rated for the square footage you need it for. Then, just go with whatever option suits you best.

Seems like a pretty dire response to a mild case of seasonal allergy.

If it’s that severe an air purifier probably isn’t going to help you, go to an allergist and get allergy shots. I got them and it changed my life

It’s almost like you skipped right over the part where I said this has been going on all year

I’m trying to do whatever i can to avoid being medicated 24/7

My allergist and I have discussed this, and she seems to think since it’s just something in my house, I can try to take care of the problem instead of getting the shots.

i actually agree. i was kind of sold this plus the hepa over the electronic filtration system from trane. the UV was a very small add on that i tacked on knowing that the hepa filters would prolly be more than enough with zero carpet in the house.

i do not think the UV does much if anything but i am glad i saved the money over the electronic filtration system.

with all my returns up stairs(open air returns) it made the most sense. add in the rainbow in the main area and 3 smaller rainbow filters and my wife and older kids have not had any problems despite pretty bad allergies.

but yea i do think UV is atleast way way overrated.
