All the opposition has here is micro solutions to macro problems. Not everyone can be an engineer or doctor. If there was a massive wave of people going into trades, they would become a lot less lucrative (and they’re already a lot less lucrative than people here think)
I think the vast majority of the opportunities to make it in this economy are trades or contract type work as a sole proprietor rather than working for some company. The "save money for 30 years" crowd is clueless to this. They worked some job for some company that was steady. For the entrepreneur, your investments are in yourself and your business, not a mutual fund. You are scaling up your business and that requires capital(that banks sure as hell wont lend you).

Maybe, but aren't their expectations pretty skewed as well.
Don't they all expect to make $100,000 straight out of college for any degree??

Props to you for posting some solid advice that someone in today’s middle-class job market can actually follow.

How come I didn’t get this adulation? (Really not looking for that.)
Oh it’s my delivery and saying truths you don’t want to hear.
Still haven’t given up on you.
About your truck, sounds like you want a new truck and not that you need a new truck. There is a difference when you are trying to build wealth.
You said something about your parents being well off and more frugal than you? That could be part of your solution, yes?

Why am I on this message board? Well there is a conflict. I am empathetic and like to help people. Sometimes I really wish I didn’t have as much empathy as I do.
Clearly

"Hard working" young people will have an awesome future. The competition is almost non existent.

Didn’t answer the question. Hope springs eternal though.

This is completely and thoroughly accurate.
If you simply show up and work hard you're better than the 90% who refuse to.

What I find funny is people have asked why should anyone listen to you? Then I tell them. Then they don’t want to believe the answer.
That’s funny to me.
Is it so hard to believe that at least one person on TD has accomplished this?

Yep. Many young people I know hustle and are doing just fine. Their work ethic puts them far ahead of their peers.
