Can a cop toss a citation? Update

Got pulled over in mid-April for 81 in a 55. Was not beaten or shot because I was polite.
Cop wrote ticket and returned to car and joked that he didn’t pull me over because of my LSU license plate. Don’t remember if he was Ohio State or OU fan but pointed out that I happened to be wearing that trashy championship shirt. Shot the shite about CFB for another minute or two and went our separate ways.
I am now 6 days out from scheduled hearing and the ticket still isn’t online to pay. Can he “lose” the ticket after issuing it?
UPDATE: I’m sure many of you waiting to hear my fate. Playful CFB banter with cop did not result in a “lost” ticket. The judge in that county/jurisdiction/whatever requires a court appearance for anything 23+ mph over limit. Spoke with SG and paid my $278 fine.
Overheard a gripping domestic battery + DUI case while in the SG office but that is for another thread.
Hope you all had a great Independence day.

It can get “lost in the system.”

He may have “forgotten” to turn it in

God is an LSU fan. His jokes didnt go unnoticed. My guess is he never made it back to the station.

Polite was on the list from the other day of ways people mean white without saying it.

They are supposed to be accountable for all of their tickets, but yes, they can toss them if they want. Happened to me recently with an 83 in a 60. I called him, and he said he must've lost in on the way to the station

Yep, and government employees at the courthouse don’t give a single flying frick so no worries there

I am, in fact, white. They guy is just doing his job. Being an a-hole won’t get you out of the ticket. Being polite can get the speed reduced or get you out of the construction zone.

These citations are numbered, so I would assume that they all have to be accounted for. I have no idea how their system for doing that works, so I can't comment on that. IMO, you're taking a risk if you just ignore it and assume it got lost in the system. Of course, if you alert them to it, I'm sure they will expect you to pay it.

I definitely will not ignore it like I am ignoring the camera ticket I got in Lakeview.
In the past I had to deal with a bench warrant that was issued for an “unpaid” ticket that I could prove was paid. It was a pain in the arse.
I left a message with the clerk’s office and will visit in person before the date if they don’t return my call.

I got a ticket in Dry Prong, La., driving back from a job. I think it was 75 in a 55. I had just gotten off a 14 day night shift rotation and was trying to get home. Called the station a couple of times to pay it and it never got posted. Cop and I talked for a bit and he handed me the ticket.
Never heard anything else about it. I’d imagine it got “missplaced in the turnaround”.

Prepare to visit. There is no chance those lazy fricks call you back.

If you're not on the docket, you don't need to go to court

Just wait till the day before the court date and check then. That happened to both my wife and I over the last year. Mine actually never got posted and the people at the courthouse were very confused by the whole situation. My wifes got posted the day before her court date just when I thought it wasn't going to.
If its anything like the sheriffs office here they have until to court date to turn it in. And we had a week after the court date to pay.
