What’s up with these things? Have they always been there? I really just started noticing them today and they are everywhere.
I’m assuming since we paid for these we can get online somewhere and view them.
If I’m involved in an accident can I get the footage from the city?
Is there some dude sitting behind a desk looking at these all day?
I’m talking about these deals:

traffic cameras for tickets and stuff and for crime investigations. You'd be surprised how much of the roadways are videoed and when someone goes missing or there is a murder the police can track vehicles, atleast somewhat. But any camera like that in La is simply for sending bogus tickets for the "Rainy Day Slush Fund."

At night if I am sitting at a light with one of those, I flick my brights, and the light instantly turns green. Other than that, I have no idea what they are for.

Those look like traffic cameras, that monitor traffic flow and can also serve as a surveillance camera if the authorities need it pulled for something that happened in the area. Like when you watch crime doc's and you see footage of the suspect's car driving down the road at a certain time, its probably from one of these.

Those are just cameras that tell the light systems when a vehicle is waiting in the lane. They don’t save video, they’re just constantly watching for a change in pixels to indicate the presence of a vehicle.

In the past LADOTD did not save any traffic video, it only worked in real-time. Things might have changed, but saving all that info would use an amazing amount of storage capacity.
Also, if those cameras wanted to catch any license plate info they might want to turn them the other direction.

This. Mounting these sensors is cheaper than boring grooves in the pavement for the typical magnetic sensors.

Direct feed to Bill Gates’ house.

Vehicle detection camera, its tied to the light system and helps regulate the flow of vehicles, kinda like the magnetic detection strips.

Facial recognition cameras...
That's how JPSO catches those POS's heading back to Orleans Parish...
The ones that face the opposite way are license plate readers..

Sensors for the lights bro
Posted on 2/4/21 at 1:21 pm to OysterPoBoy
Those are infrared cameras to help manage traffic. If it doesn’t detect a vehicle it will leave the main roadway green for longer. They can also detect and differentiate between cars, motorcycles, and pedestrians.

Usually those cameras control the timing of the traffic light. They monitor when a vehicle is in a turning lane or stops at the light.

They control the lights and replace traffic loop wires in the road
