Cameras on poles with flashing lights

What’s the deal with these things? Cameras on a pole with blue and red flashing lights. Started seeing them in New Orleans a few months back, now I’m seeing them in Laplace.
Are for deterring crime or catching criminals?
And no I don’t live in Laplace

Even if they did, probably no one monitoring them until after the cromes happened. Cops busy some where else. Not sure about yalls area but DPD is apparently over 1k officers short per estimates. These cameras have been around dallas for yrs. Kind of makes one feel better, but then you start thinking why it's needed in the area you are in. So time to scoot. Ha.

More efficient means to disperse chemicals. Planes are being phased out of the process. The poles also have to ability to send out mind altering subsonic waves. Just stay calm. Soon you won't even be able to see the lights.

They’ve got one in Lafayette at the corner of ambassador and Kaliste Saloom that flashes blue. I have no idea what it is for.

NOPD crime cameras.
they are being used not so much to see crime in real time, but if a crime occurs, they can go to the camera to review footage to look for what happened, suspects, evidence, etc.
The flashing lights were supposed to be a deterrence - as in , the criminals know they are being filmed. I personally think it just means they move out of sight of the camera.
