I doubt you could live stream any classroom footage as it may violate FERPA privacy laws.

Security footage could indemnify teachers when an incident occurs in the classroom.

The problem is you would need a TON of bandwidth and data storage for the video. Many security cameras that would be cost effective for schools are IPcams. You would need a lot of bandwidth and storage space on your network to accommodate video (with sound) for a school with 100 classrooms.

I have a virtual server that stores video from 16 cameras for 14 days. It is a resource hog to say the least especially when you run backups.

As I said before, there needs to be a minimum threshold that must be met before someone can view the video.

easier said than done.

The question then becomes how do you define a problem? Who gets to define a problem. Consistent use across the board. What if one school is more liberal with allowing access than another? Is it a school board decision, because I guarantee you they are not going to want that headache.

No, we'd prefer you were a dick about everything, didn't ask for little Johnny to get an 90 when he earned a 78, or believe everything your child says and hold them accountable every bit as much as you want to hold his teachers.
There definitely are parents who think their kids are entitled and will make excuses for them. I'm just the opposite.

As a former educator, I wouldn't have a problem with a camera in my classroom.

Why are teachers too high and mighty that they think it is ok to be supervised only when they have advance warning? Each and every day in that classroom should be your best effort or at least enough to pass muster.

My bigger problems with cameras in the classroom would be when I would assign detentions. Parents would request "To see the video" of Little Johnny running naked through the classroom throwing middlefingers and F-bombs because they wouldn't trust my word it actually happened. Then if the video doesn't truly show a clear naked arse, they would feel like Johnny Cochran freeing OJ

It's not like they're gonna use the footage to punish anyone

What says the OT? If your local school board had a vote, would you vote for it?

Big yes.

Why or why not?

Several reasons, but largely because I tend to get tired of asking my sons what went on in class today only to get blank stares or answers that sound like they sat around doing almost nothing. Would be nice to actually get a glimpse of what teachers are doing and what my kids or doing in class.

I mean...you can have camera at daycare, camera to watch your damn dogs if they stay over night and some kennel...why not in your kid's class room?

And for teachers, this would seem like a great idea for their own protection and to show what they actually do or go through. On the other hand, much like dirty police who seem to get all whiny about cameras watching them work, I could see why shitty teachers would be against this idea.

along race lines on this board, but I can promise you the vast majority of black parent(s) in this state would love to have the trash thrown out or put into alternative schools so that their kids can go to school in peace.

And I know that. I'm not trying by any stretch to indict all "black people" (a stupid term anyway. People are people and not all the same.)

But it's that inner city element (call it hood, ghetto, etc.) that seems to be the worst about it. And it spreads like wildfire. I never really had any real problems with the black kids in AP. EBR was a completely different animal she turned me off to teaching. (Well, that and money).

It amazed me the havoc one or two of these troublemakers would wreak on the classroom, and all of a sudden they'd have the whole class whooping and hollering.

They'll use it to punish the below average teacher (which they should) but they'll also use it to get rid of a teacher so they can bring in their own people.

I taught in a place where we had cameras in the class. The parent could log on and see what was going on in the class. I thought it was a wonderful thing because I felt it protected me from any false accusations. I had nothing to hide and had no problem with parents logging in to see the class in action.

Word of warning though, a fellow teacher learned the hard way that it was best to get out of camera range before dealing with a wedgie. She was so embarrassed.
