can't stress this enough.
Absolutely no reason to get new models if you find a prior Gen with great reviews and proven track record.
Some of the 5 yr old Rebels are dirt cheap new and will be more than sufficient for 90% of amateurs.

My Canon 7D has been discontinued for years but still works great.

There are even accessories you can get for your camera phone right? Are there any that upgrades your camera phone?

Motorola makes phones that have legit camera attachments.
High end custom stuff can be done to iPhones. but not sure how to get that shite from places like Amazon or Best Buy. Google "Hollywood movies made with iPhone + equipment"

The apple store has several items. Newegg probably has items for the iPhone as well

Yeah I got the XH-1 over the XT-3, it has the same processor and sensor as the XT-20.

I've read the color is better and images sharper with the X-pro processor over the new processor.

Fuji color repro is incredible.

The Nikon D750 is on the shortlist that I had made before starting this thread. I will for sure spend the time to learn about whichever camera I choose and try to get the most out of it as I can.

As I said before, I have never owned a camera, but photography is something that I think I will be very interested in once I have a camera to play around with. So I am looking to get a camera that I can grow into and not feel like I need to purchase something new after a year.

Another motivator is to save on the "professional" family pictures that my wife will undoubtedly be wanting to take once the little one is here. Hopefully I can get to the point where she feels like we do not need a photographer to come in every few months..

Look into the Sony and Panasonic mirrorless cameras. Find a body and a good lens that covers a decent range (14-140mm-ish range) they're sharp, quiet, and light. Also have in-body image stabilization

Haha. Ah man. Did you film it yourself, or did you set it up somewhere in the room? My wife is adamant about having a photographer in the room. We have a Hero 7 Black that took great videos on our last vacation that I am trying to talk her into using in-place of hiring a photographer.

I downvoted you only because you and your wife have forced somebody to be on this earth with what’s coming here real soon. Y’all are sadists man.

No I’m kidding congratulations to your growing family. I wish you the best.

Haha reminds me of my Grandfather. His first words when he found out we were expecting were, "Why would you want to bring a child into this world?"

I appreciate man. We are excited.

Doing my research on mirrorless now! The compactness of a mirrorless compared to the relative bulkiness of a DSLR is a definite plus!

Only thing about Sony cameras is the cost/range of their lenses.

Haha, can you blame your Grandfather? Can you imagine what 2019 looks like to a man that probably was going to grade school under segregation? shite I’m generation x and I’m really questioning the compassion of all the people that choose to procreate. I hope I’m wrong I really do but I think a hard rains a gonna fall soon. I’m sorry I don’t know anything about cameras.

I'm too invested in DSLR to switch right now. If I was starting, I would definitely go mirrorless. I just saw a panel of 4 people discussing their cameras, and Sony and Panasonic were the 2 that stood out the most to me. Like I said, good glass will be important. With Panasonic, they have lens with image stabilization in addition to in-body stabilization. And it's really compact for travel

From what I have read the glass is as important as the body, or even more important. I really haven’t dived into yet though.

One thing I’ve seen a few times in this thread is the much wider range of glass for a DSLR than mirrorless. I am assuming this won’t really affect someone like me who isn’t a professional and won’t be buying more than a few lenses?

Sony and Fuji have a lot of mirrorless lenss. Canon and Nikon are just getting into the game. Lens variety is catching up fast.

Panasonic and Olympus have a lot of mirrorless options. Smaller, lighter too.

Their crop sensor cameras have micro 4/3rds sensors which are smaller. Tradeoff off is not as good low light performance. But might check out their lines as well. Unless you're doing nightt street photography, you'll never notice

Kid #1) we need an expensive camera to take tons of pictures of our super awesome baby who is so much better and specialier than all other kids in history
Kid #2) phone camera is good enough
Kid #3) we’ll just remember what he looked like.
