Any of you baws ever make the switch to a bigger company? Was it a good decision or do you regret it?
Looks like one of the oil/chemical giants will be offering me an operations job soon and the plant is also closer to home with much higher top pay and better benefits.
But would potentially be leaving a super laid back smaller plant that has a less of a corporate attitude and more perks. Also seriously doubt I would be able to come back if I did leave.

Every plant has their own "culture and atmosphere." I work for a large chemical company but fairly small plant. It really juat depends on the people.
If I was offered a job with better pay and benefits, I'd take it. Worse case scenario is if you don't like it, you can always find another plant job. One thing to consider is advancement. Can you advance or will you be stuck in same position?

I'm not an operator, but my friend is in the same predicament. Take the job with the bigger company. If your small plant is like his, you probably get called in all the time. With the bigger companies, it doesn't happen that often since there are such strict fatigue rules. JMO

Well I asked about advancement in my interview and 3 of the 5 on the panel started as operators and were all in different areas of management. So there definitely seems to be opportunities

Not too many call ins but a whole lot of scheduled overtime

Take the job. Max out your 401k and retire in 20-25.

where you at now? You in the 504 on the west bank?

If the plant you might be going to has double time, that is a major incentive. You can work a 12 hour shift and gross approximately $1000. That ain't a bad day's pay.

yeah I don't really want to name the plant but it's west of 9 Mile Point

Nope the one offering is south east on the West Bank

staying at one place without significant advancement for five years is a downgrade towards future opportunities. Companies want to see your career arc is on the uptrend and not looking for a parking spot.
