Don't forget that you have to put your kids in private school because the public schools suck. Add that to your cost of living in BR.

It’s all relative but if the white collar jobs came, all the rest would fix itself. People can tolerate bad public schools roads etc if it means they have a good paying job in a low COL region.
Chicken or egg. We've lost a lot of homegrown corporate HQ's to towns with better airports, better infrastructure, and more attractive residential options.
I seriously think that if we built out a better road network (state and local level) and designed our system to funnel traffic efficiently to the jobs centers and to the airports.....we'd make significant gains in competitiveness across the board.

BR is ok but if you have to live in Lousiana New Orleans area is your best option. Yes it has all the problems but much more to do than BR and easier to get around I know most people would say the Northshore but you still have to drive the bridge to go to Saengar Superdome Arena great restaurants ( although NS has improved greatly in that area ) airport casino City Park Audubon Park Magazine street etc As for BR it has all the problems of New Orleans but not nearly as much of the good stuff

Not a great place to live, bro. Decent, but there are plenty of better places to dwell…

Metro area is 870,000+.
Blows my mind that the metro area will probably surpass 900k in the next couple of years and 1 million by 2040. This is all despite the region and state’s best efforts.
It’s not obscene growth rates. It’s actually quite manageable and predictable…which makes the condition of our road network and general healthcare and education infrastructure shocking. You’d think that the growth happened overnight by looking at how disorganized and crowded things are in so many areas in the Baton Rouge region.
The economy of the region sort of guarantees that it will never be a boom town. But it also helps keep it fairly stable and safe from an RE investment standpoint.

Seems like the last major "new" project was the Audubon Bridge and it took them 25 years to even start construction after a funding stream was secured. Almost everything else I can think of was reacting to something being functionally obsolete.
I'm really hoping that they figure out how to make this new arena work. A bigger arena somewhere in Baton Rouge would go a long way towards bringing in some serious entertainment options.

Nope this board has no place for good things to say about the area. People would rather pile on and be miserable.
It's a remarkably negative board. I mean some of those old ladies are completely incapable of even recognizing some of the incredible things about living in Louisiana. Only want to focus and dwell on the negative.
That kind of attitude would make them miserable anywhere.

Poor people hate BR, they all had to move to Texas

I liked BR when I lived there in the early 2000’s. Traffic was terrible, but you get that with almost any city. I knew what areas to avoid, and didn’t make a habit of being out after midnight.

Every small cafe and lunch spot sells sandwiches. Maxwells comes to mind. Those aren't as popular because people can make that at home.

Where would you live in New Orleans area? There is nothing to do in the suburbs. Lakeview and Uptown are expensive for what it is. Midcity and Gentilly still arent great places. Insurance and storm threat is high. Baton Rouge is like Jefferson parish with LSU and a social scene. Easy livin with a little bit of action. 15 minute drive to new orleans vs an hour drive to new orleans.

It’s not bad. Just live below Government and you are fine. Great restaurant scene in BR.
