Why CalExit will never happen
Oil: They have the Monterey Shale, but as of 2013, they have had little to no success in extracting the estimated 15B barrels in the area since being discovered in 1901.
Strike 1
Water: Water gets shipped in from Idaho, Oregon, and other surrounding states. Good luck with those import taxes. Their current reserves are dwindling, and would only last them several months. They also don't have nearly enough desalinization plants to keep up with the eventual demand.
BIIIIG Strike 2
Natural Disasters: Have fun dealing with the aftershock of a giant Tsunami or Earthquake without federal disaster relief assistance.
Strike 3, you're already out.
Shipping: Los Angeles has a port, but it is ranked at number 10 in the country, behind New Orleans, Houston, Baton Rouge, Beaumont, New York, etc. Not the best, but not the worst.
Swing and a miss
Energy: They have no coal. How will they power the state? Let's not forget how in the not-so-distant past, Enron held California in a stranglehold because they get their energy "shipped" in from outside sources, causing rolling blackouts to drive the price (that the residents paid) through the roof at their leisure.
Still Swinging, Still Missing
Defense: No rednecks to defend borders, just helpless hipsters who are given PTSD by firing a gun my sister shoots regularly.
Jeez, put the bat down
Legality: It would be an unconstitutional, illegal act if California decided to leave the Union. But what could Washington actually do about it? Post another announcement on the White House webpage saying it doesn't approve? Would Californians really risk the possibility of Federal intervention?
Aaaaand finally the umpire called California's parents and made them bring him home.

They would take with them their 55 electoral votes that always go to a Democrat. That is a double bonus.

This is incorrect. Also makes you look even more foolish as the port of Long Beach is next to port of LA and they are the 2 busiest in the United States. Where do you think all the Asian cargo ships go?

Yeah that's idiotic. Anyways this thread is ridiculous. California is part of the United States of America.

Who is going to protect them?? Surely they know the federal government won't.

They would actually. You think our government would want China or Russia propping up a former state.

People talking about could the US be invaded in another thread, and the answer is "no", unless Russia or China or a coalition of countries that have the US were able to occupy CA.

Which none of this is ever happening. It's like an Ole Miss fan worrying about parking issues for the SECCG.

My vision is Cali succeeds, we declare war, overtake it, put all the scum liberals Somewhere, either deport them or put them in North Dakota, and re-establish the beautiful state as a productive normal part of the Union.

California produces more than any state in the country.

Eta there is no actual movement to secede and thank you for your service.

Some great positives, but also some great negatives like highest welfare support, poverty level, income issues.

You're welcome and Thank you.

The fake threat of secession has gotten so fricked out and retarded

Not fake, but still retarded because all 49 states are not ever going to agree on it.

It's an even more ridiculous situation considering people are making organizations that require funding to do it. A colossal waste of funding.

I felt exactly the same way when people were discussing a Texas succession

Difference being Texas has water, and has an energy industry, and does decent all-around at everything else. California can't survive on the water factor, and that alone makes it impossible.
