Oh, you’d rather have the Kansas model.
They basically cut taxes until they could cut no more. And now the state is in a worse fiscal condition in Louisiana.

People in Louisiana joking about California is just laughably stupid
One of the most pathetic states piling on the largest economic power in the United States
Makes perfect sense

State Assembly Republican Leader Chad Mayes said recently that California has "the highest poverty rate in the nation" when considering the U.S. Census Bureau’s Supplemental Poverty Measure.
Data from that report, and researchers who study poverty, support Mayes’ statement. The state’s 20.6 percent poverty rate is higher than any other, though Florida’s 19 percent rate is close, especially when considering the margin of error.
The supplemental report is considered by experts the best state-by-state measure of poverty, because it takes into account geographic differences in cost-of-living, not just income levels.
In his statement, Mayes cited the specific report that backs his claim, and added the context that another report, one that doesn’t account for cost-of-living, shows California’s poverty closer to the national average.
Given this clarity and context, we rate Mayes' statement True.

The depend on the neighboring states. California has been struggling with supplying its own water for decades. This isn't news to anyone but you apparently

Stop cherry picking.
Many states cut taxes over last 8 years and ended up having bigger surpluses/revenues than before the tax reform.
Ohio, Utah, North Carolina are some examples.
OTOH, Connecticut raised taxes bigly and currently has the worst fiscal condition of any state in the nation.
The point? You can't deduce the validity of a certain worldview by only looking at one state. Economic performance is based on an innumerable amount of factors, many unique to individual states. You can't compare it apples to apples.

That is pretty impressive considering that state has been a financial black hole for the past two decades it seems like.
Balanced the budget by raising yet again taxes. That is great but Brown should start focusing on making California more livable for the middle class and business. How about paying on some tax cuts and business incentives to create jobs.

There is a lot of dumbness in this thread.
For this one year, CA claims a 6 billion dollar surplus against money received for this one year. — Basicalky they haven’t spent all of this one paycheck.
CA is carrying a 450 billion dollar dept over.
If they were to apply this years surplus (which they won’t) and continued to do so, CA would still be in debt for 75 years.

CA is the poorest state in the USA.

This isn't news to me
But they're obviously getting water from other sources if they continue to supply the country with produce

quote:People seem to forget just how poor certain areas of california are. Are some areas, such as silicone valley and other coastal cities incredibly wealthy? Yes, but there is startling poverty in other places.
CA is the poorest state in the USA.
Santa Ana, Oakland, El Centro....these are among the poorest places IN THE NATION.
The irony is that the same people who praise california turn a blind eye to its incredible inequality.
They turn a blind eye to the fact that home ownership in California is THE SECOND LOWEST IN THE NATION.I thought it is sooooooo important for the middle class to own homes and have equity?
They turn a blind eye to the fact that the cost of living in California is an embarrassment. I thought "affordable" good were sooooo important to help the poor.

Where do you idiots get this from? California will hit 40 million this year. The population is not declining. In fact it is increasing and the worst of the worst neighborhoods are gentrifying.

Last year, California had 142,932 more residents exit to live in other states than arrive, according to an analysis of a new report from the U.S. Census Bureau, released Wednesday, Nov. 15. This “domestic net outmigration” was the second-largest outflow in the nation behind New York and just ahead of Illinois and New Jersey. And it was up 11 percent (13,699 net departures) vs. 2015.
You aren't adjusting for births. California is growing in population because hispanic women have a lot of kids, starting at age 18. People are not moving here from other states.

last year’s new residents from other states were just 1.33 percent of all Californians — the lowest rate of attraction among all states.
